I've got pretty sharp pains in my side since I've been taking it (on the side where I have an ovary) has anyone else had discomfort while taking it - what does it mean?

I've had lots of pain in my right side and a little pain on my left, much stronger on my right side than usual never have anything on the left. Hoping it is a good sign. Just got my smiley face on my opk. Fingers crossed x

Fingers crossed! Looking forward to doing an OPK this month and hopefully getting a positive result! I am going in for a scan on Thursday (day 12) to look for ripening folicles, worried/frightened/excited!

 

Wahoo two days of smiley faces on my opk. Lots of pain ony right side, never had that before so hoping its a good sign.

Froggy123, I get bad ov pains with clomid. I used to get mild cramps and twinges but clomid seem to increase everything.

Well took my last clomid yesterday, af finally gone. I've got a follow up appointment at the end of June with the fertility doc who prescribed clomid. I really hope she doesn't want me to stay on it or increase dosage etc.

Just had my day 21 result and 50mg was a bust

We also got hubby's SA result on Monday and although count and motility were good, morphology wasn't where it should be. Gp wanted to repeat SA and if that came back the same, refer us for ivf but not on the nhs. He is happy to continue with Clomid in the meantime, but if we're going to end up going private in three months (how long we'll have to wait for another SA), then we might as well start now.

So first step is I've just booked an appointment for Friday for an AMH blood test to indicate what my ovarian reserve is. Then an appointment with the consultant next week to see what the options are. So Clomid is on hold just until I speak to them on Friday, so I may or may not be staying with you.

Oh Dudders, really sorry you have not had good news.Can I ask why you have to go private? I looked back to your first post in this thread and you don't mention the reason why.

Well that another cycle failed really giving up hope now i am now onto my 6th cycle of clomid!
Dudders i no how you feel i have to go private if clomid doesnt work as its the only thing i am entitled to on the nhs as hubby already has a child so not fair.

Froggy, in a way it's come out of the blue really. My gp agreed to start tests after we'd been trying six months as I'm 35, which was a day 21 blood test for me and a semen analysis for hubby and then we'd start Clomid. As the appointment for the SA was going to be a 3 month wait, we could start a round of Clomid in the meantime. So we got his results on Monday, as suddenly the gp was saying that he wanted to repeat hubby's test (of course another three month wait!) and if it was still the same he would refer us for ivf.

To be honest, I was like WTF as it seems like a massive leap to me! So with good old google I've seen that opinions vary about aspects of the SA results and it might easily not be the problem he suggests. But to find this out on the nhs, we would have to wait ages for the repeat SA and then wait for referrals for any of the other routine tests that should be done for ivf which could easily be six months and more!

So I'm having the blood test to see whether we stand a chance on my side, albeit with ovulation induction which is costing ??85. Then it's ??150 to meet the consultant, but quite frankly it's a small price to pay to get some answers from someone who specialises in fertility so will know infinitely more than our gp! He'll see whether we need to repeat hubby's SA or not (??100) and probably suggest an hsg for me at ??160. When we looked at these figures we decided it was well worth it to get answers quickly as it might save us an awful lot of heartache.

I'm still hoping that he'll say that hubby's results aren't really anything to worry about and they've already said the hsg tends to increase fertility in the following months. So a few hundred pounds to find out it's not as bad as the gp makes it sound within a week or two will stop me becoming a mad woman!!! xxx

Absolutely understand the wait is so frustrating.My GP sent me away and she said "You have age on your side" - I'm 25. I have always been worried I would have problems as I had an ovary removed for an enormous cyst several years ago and it very likely left scarring on the remaining ovary. I paid for me and the hubby to have our first tests - SA and day 21 done privately and then the GP made the referral with those as my day 21 showed absolutely zero activity but without our private tests we would have needed to wait another year for a referral (shocking).

I think it is really strange that your GP is making such a huge leap straight to IVF. In any case the GP would need to refer you to your local fertility clinic and they would make the decision about IVF or other options not the GP. I think to go straight in and say "Oh It'll need to be IVF" is jumping to conclusions. In my limited experience GPs really don't know very much about this and you need to speak to the experts. I get very frustrated when GPs seem unable to recognise their own limitations, the money to meet with a consultant quickly is a small price to pay for  answers and expertise.

I hope your hubby's results are nothing to worry about. If he has good motility and good numbers that is a positive thing and hopefully there'll be some strong swimmers in there who'll make it! I used the World Health Organisation's "reference values for human semen document" to decipher hubby's results and it was different to that of the NHS (But I reckon the WHO is the most accurate).

Luckilly for us hubby is fine - it's just me who has the problem.

I have my day 12 follicle tracking scan tomorrow and feeling very anxious. Fingers crossed.

I can't knock our gp to be fair as from what I've seen from other people's experiences we are lucky he's been so proactive so far. I think the main thing is we don't want to waste months waiting around for referrals and I'm sure even once he referred us they would look at other options first before diving into ivf, so we're just cutting out the middle man really.

The nhs wheels move too slowly, and for the sake of a few hundred quid I'd rather not risk wasting valuable time. I think we stand a chance of hubby not being a problem as the count was high and motility was good but even with the lower morphology he could still have as many 'normal' sperm as a man with a lower count who is classified as 'normal'.

I think the gp has done the best that he can do within the limits in our area, but he's given me Clomid before an hsg which isn't the best way - what's the use in making me ovulate if my tubes are blocked! He's also happy to still give me Clomid and do day 21 bloods regardless of what we do privately so at least we get to keep our options open.

Fingers crossed for some nice big follicles - are you having hcg trigger shots or relying on a natural lh surge?

Hi all

We are going to start on our Clomid this month.  I am 39 and have pcos which has just been diagnosed.  I have regular periods but just don't ovulate.  Am keeping everything crossed that the scan after I've started taking the Clomid, shows that everything is reacting as it should and that I will ovulate.  The hospital have been brilliant but I just get frustrated about waiting.......

This thread has been really helpful as it's good to hear about other people's experiences.

Froggy, did you have any more follicle tracking? Hope the ripened one is your bfp in waiting!

Dudders, glad your docs being pro active, are they concerned about hubs morphology, I remember my doc saying they are not concerned unless sa results are 'really' low.

Danii, I'm so similar to you, really hope clomid works or we will be self funding any further treatment. Fc it happens for you soon.

Rosapenny, when do you start taking the clomid?

I'm expecting to ov any day now, ov pains are bad as usual, my tummy feels swollen and bruised again (can't wait to see doc end of June to discuss this!)

I'm due af on Saturday but with my cycles being irregular she will probably show Monday, I have to start taking the clomid on the 5th day of my cycle so within the next week or so I'll start taking it for the first time.

Def ov on Friday as I had really terrible pain much worse than I was expecting. Think it's because clomid causes biggers follicles with more fluid in them than normal so it causes more discomfort when they rupture. I went to the gym on Friday morning and did lots of twisting and turning and that seemed to encourage ov so will be doing that every month lol. Got a positive on my OPK so now just in the 2ww to see if it's worked.
