Hi, ive just woke up and experienced a small gush of water coming from my vagina!???...
Ive still got 6 weeks to go...

Can anyone help!?

morning!! Best thing to do is contact your midwife if you get pains or not as when your waters go you have more chance of getting an infection. Plus you having 6 wks to go is not a good sign if your waters have gone. Your MW might even say sit it out for a couple of hours to see if you do get any pains. But do call her. Good luck!!! and let me know how you get on!

hi. i ahd this in my last pregnancy at 34 weeks and had to have weekly scans as the water amount was low. you should call for advice and they will examine you to see if they can see any water coming from the vagina. i am now 35 weeks and have started to experience the same thing again, but is is just a trickle feeling. hope all goes ok. good luck.xx

Def ring hospital- and dont let them fob you off saying its probably wee...it only takes a few moments to be checked to see if waters have broken (ok its not the nicest of things to do on a sun morning) and if they have they can do things to prevent labour or give you steroid injections. Try not to worry, my waters broke at 34 weeks and all went well xx

my waters broke at 36 weeks, last week. Started as a trickle but as soon as i started walking they gushed.

I went into labour 32 hours later and baby was born 7 hours later. Both doing fine.

I would phone your labour ward just to get checked.

Good luck

Thank you so much all!.

WELL.. ive been down the hospital and after waiting for 3 hours... they checked the baby out.... heart rate etc...

Eventually they checked me down below and said they dont think its happened?...
Im now very confused... It definately felt like something popped and then a small gush ran down my legs?.. the stain on the bed (as i was in bed at the time) was clear but quite a bit of it there???

Anyone had the same?... I was absolutely convinced it had leaked!??... Can the midwifes be wrong (I wasnt entirely sure they were very good to be honest)...

Did anyone else get told it probably wasnt their waters?... they have said to come back should i leak anymore...

Also those of you who did break waters early.. did it trickle for a while after ... MIne did but seems to have stopped.... im just so confused?..

hi pregnant lady. this is what happened to me in my last pregnancy as i said before. i reached up to the washing line and felt a pop and a little trickle, and form that point felt like i was trickling all the time and had to wear a pad, which became damp after a short while so i had to keep changing it. i went to the hospital and they examined me and said that they couldn't see any water gathering near the cervix. but i felt different , so the doctor saidi would need a scan to make sure to check the water levels around the baby,
when i went for the scan they found that the water levels were reduced and admitted me there and then for observation. they put me on some antibiotics for infection and just kept a general eye on me for 48 hrs. my actual consultant said my waters hadn't gone and made me feel like i was lying. he reduced me to tears. he didn't believe me. i was allowed home and had to return for weekly scans from 34 weeks when it happened til i would go into labour. i went into labour at 38 weeks. and when the midwife delivered my little girl she said that i had no hind waters and they had definatley broke at 34 weeks when i said they had. so i proved the doctors wrong. the one good thing is that the waters do replenish them selves and if there is a hole in your water bag it will repair it's self.
so now i am 35 weeks and i feel like the same has happened again but i feel reluctant to ask the hospital for advice because of the reaction i got last time. i feel like i am bothering them for no reason.
glad you have been checked out and all seems ok, take care.xx

hi pen,
thanks for your advise..
would you say it did happen to me then?.. im absolutely posative it popped.. and slightly gushed out down my leg!... The only thing is... ive had damp knickers since.. but not very wet at all???.. would you say this is the same...

Like you, I KNOW my body.. and I know that it wasnt wee!.. i definately felt a pop... and the water def. came from my vagina!...
I felt so violated from the internal exam today to.. and 4 hour wait, only to be told it doesnt look like its broke!.

Did you get more twinges starting after this point.. (braxton hicks) .. ?
Do you think my baby will come early?.. I do hope so as he's bigger than average apparently..
xx

thanks for all your help.. look forward to hearing from you xx

hi. i would say that your hind waters have gone like mine did. they can't usually tell if it's the hind waters, thats why i was refered for a scan to check the water levels around baby.at the moment i am experiencing damp but not wet pads changing them regular, so that tells me that it's not wee and it doesn't smell like wee.and last time mine just kept trickling until i gave birth, and i just felt damp all the time.
i am having periody pains and strong braxton hicks this time and last time it was periody pains. but this is my 5th baby and i think the pains get more with the more babies you have. you never know when your baby will arrive, it's best if he waits a little til 37 weeks at least. bless you. i hope all goes ok. and if he does come early i'm sure he will be lovely. keep in touch and let us know how you go. take care.xx

hi again pen!
ahh.. ive had periody pains too the last couple of days.... Asked my midwife and she said this is probably the muscles stretching!??... hmmm... :\?

how often to you get damp though if you dont mind me asking... Are you at the stage of wearing pads or do you just feel damp at the end of the day in your underware?

Im so sorry to ask so many questions but it does sound like im going through the same thing!

P.S.. congratulations on having 5 children!!.. you certainly know what your talking about then!

I had to go in the other week cos i stood up to go put a cup in the kitchen and i felt liquid running down my leg! I went to the loo and i was wearing white knickers, the water was clear so i phoned the labour ward and they said come in. They gave me an examination and said all was fine and i could go home, i asked what it was i felt and they said it was wee, i said thats stupid i know if i wet ,myself or not lol. They admitted they didnt know and said it was prolly discharge. Ever since ive had period type pains on and off but my midwife said this is normal. So i dont have a clue either

hi again. i have to wear a pad at the moment. i have to change it regular as well as it gets damp. it's not as bad when i am in bed but when i am on the go all day with my kids thats when it happens.
i will se the m/w again next thursday, but i will be phoning for advice if i need to. take care.xx

Hi all, Might sound silly but could the dampness just be sweat?? I have this as well and just put it down to that as I haven't had a trickle yet, well not a big enough one to be worried only one that I could say the baby moved down, squashed my bladder and my wee had no choice but to come out! thats why I thought the dampness could only be sweat! ??

hi. no it's definatley not sweat. the smell of sweat and amniotic water are very different. as is wee.xx
21/05/2007 at 10:33
Hi! Did the midwife check the fluid? They can use an 'amnistick' which looks like a giant cotton bud. If there is amniotic fluid present it turns black.

Also, may sound a bit daft- could it possibly be water from a shower or bath that has been trapped by the muscles in your vagina and released later on. I know it probably sounds mad, but that is what happened to me in my first pregnancy. It caused an initial gush, and then kept leaking.
Good luck

hi fairy-fluffy...
good point actually but how did you know it was bath or shower water...
it did pop though!.. I really didnt think i could mistake that?..
how did you know it was water stuck up there? (if you dont mind me asking?)

Many thanks for all your help! its much appreciated..

im having period pains also now which are coming and going... dont know whether that means anything...

They took a swab.. what ever that was but didnt confirm it as 'not' being the fluid!..
21/05/2007 at 14:55
Hi! I didnt realise until it happened a couple of times following!! It could be as long as the next day before it happened.

If you are getting pains it is worth going back to your midwife- are you sure they are not Braxton Hicks?? Could you have a Urine Infection?? Maybe you should go back to see your midwife and take a urine specimin with you just to be sure.
