i was thinking of a tens machine i found one at my moms house but it doesn't actually say in the instuctions that it can be used for labour and how to use it during labour does anybody kno if all tens machines are used for labour? im so confused:\?

i wouldn't risk using the one you found cos if its not the right one it might do some harm if it doesnt say anything about labour its probably just a muscle toner x

I've only *just heard of Tens machines via babysites

Michelle is quite right, there are muscle toner tens that are NoT suitable for child birth - after a lot of research, I'd like to purchase a Babycare Elle. Boots and Lloyds chemist hire them for approx ??29, but for a ??65 buy, I'd like to try it on my back afterwards { the opposite is okay apparently }

Has anyone spotted an Elle cheaper than 65 ?? wouldn't mind an x-rental.

i hired mine from mothercare. it helped me for about 12 hours (after my waters were broken). It was neat & easy to use. but i did forget to turn it off when the anthaestist tried to give me the epidual - he got an electrical shock! whoops x

I hired a TENS from tens.co.uk
I took it off after a couple of hours because it was annoying me. It wasn't right for me, I felt I couldn't relax (the constant pulsing kept me alert) & the wires made me feel limited.

I hope its more successful for you

hi,
not all tens machines are for labour.do not use it if it does not state it is safe for use during labour.
i bought a VM verity medical Neuro Trac Labour TENS from ebay. It cost me around ??45.00 and i am planning to re sell it on ebay soon, a bit cheaper in the long run than hiring one imo.
I would definatley recommend it for every pregnant woman unless you are having a planned section.
I am total wuss with pain and had epidurals with my first 2 kids. I had my third baby at home 5 weeks ago and thought i would have trouble coping with only tens and gas and air (i had never used a tens before.) I actually managed with a tens machine only, the midwife arrived too late for the birth as did the gas and air. it really gave me something to focus on pressing the button everytime i had a contraction and made the pain alot more managable. i thought it was brilliant and if i was to give birth again i would buy another one with out any hesitation.

Hi all
I bought a femme tens from babies r us yesterday as i had it recommended by quite a few people, just tried it and and it seems quite good dont know if i'm using it right but i followed the instructions and my back has gone numb - is that supposed to happen?
Hey toni managing with only a tens machine.........thats fab i'm such a big wuss will probley end up running the gamut of pain relief dispite planing a 'natural' birth lol. the only thing i'm thankfull for is the birthing unit i'm booked into dont do epidurals and i'd have to be transfered to hospital 20 miles away if i wanted one!

hi.
yeah it was quite quick, 5 and a half hours. my other 2 took a tad longer my first was 16 hours and my second was 5 long days! i think the fact i was at home and felt totally relaxed and in control helped with the pain alot too. thinking back im amazed i coped so well with only a tens actually lol im usually a total wuss with pain too.
