hi, they are similar to sanitary toweels, hough they are specially designed for the lochia (the thicker, gunky blood that u lose after birth)...also it's not recommended that u use sanitary towells instead as they are 'too good' at locking away bleeds, making it much harder to tell if ur bleeding too much/post partum haemorrage etc. hth xx

Where they're very thick also they're quite nice if you have stitches because they make it a bit softer when you sit down!

Also they stick to your bits less than normal ones - again better for if you have stitches!

they are really thick pads, normal sanitary towels after a vaginal birth just wont be enough at first - at least they wouldn't have been for me. they sell them in tesco and mothercare get a couple of packs and some cheap or disposable knickers.

Also pack a towel, take a pillow and a few pairs of jogging bottoms or leggings/ pj bottoms as i went through more clothes on the bottom half than i realised i would after having my daughter. But only for the first few days till everything for back to normal down there!

i have always just used normal towels, always night time, i can recommend. never had any problems with the 4 births ive had and i will be using them for this one, funny ive read this tonight as actually brought some this afternoon, as currently on offer in asda.
