How long after head engaged did you go into labour?

Hi all,

Just a quick question. How long after the head engaging did you go into labour?

The head is 4/5th engaged and I'm 34 weeks.

Is head 4/5th engaged or 4/5th palpable? Usually its measured as how much of the head is out of the cervix (palpable) rather than how much is in (engaged), if that makes sense.
My LO was 3/5th palpable (2/5th engaged) at 36 weeks but I still went 2 weeks overdue...sorry! LOL.

hi, yes i agree they normally write the amount they can feel. So if it says 4/5th engaged that normally means only 1/5 is in the pelvis. Holly was 2/5 at 38 weeks, then at 40 weeks only 4/5 engaged! And this was my first so in theory shouldnt have come back up! And i went a week over im afraid! Sorry! Atleast baby is heading in the right direction though! x

My baby was completely free and un-engaged right up until I went into labour! I went 13 days overdue so this might have something to do with it.
Its really hard to say though.
Like everyone has said, 4/5 means they can still feel 4/5 of the head so only 1/5 has engaged. Its going the right way though, and is good for 34 weeks!

My baby was engaged 2/5 from 33 weeks and 1/5 from 36 weeks but still went overdue by a week. If the head is engaging it is a very good sign that the baby is a nice normal size to fit through the birth canal. My 2nd baby was huge and was not even engaged in established labour. Still gave birth to him naturally though. xxx

i have been 3/5 since 34wks n at my last appointment was 4/5 not sure wot i am now as im bak there tomoz for my term appointment good luck

Hi, my baby's head was 2/5th engaged (3/5th palpable) at 30 weeks, at 37 weeks it dropped to 3/5ths engaged and at 38 weeks it was 4/5ths engaged, I'm now 41+3, had 2 membrane sweeps and still nothing is happening...sorry, I hope it's different for you, but I remember being so excited at 30 weeks that it was engaged already!!

I'm dropping more and more each day. People keep saying to me they think I'll have it in a few weeks and midwife thinks I may be a bit early.

Thank you for your advice and what happened to you. Baby was head down for 4 weeks and only just engaged.

He was engaged for about 3/4 weeks before labour. It made sitting so hard - especially when taking a bath in early labour!
