We have just been told our 5 week old boy has been diagnosed with the above condition.
We have been told about the procedure that needs to be done to rectify this (hate to think of a baby going under the knife! :\( )
But We were wondering if any of your children or even yourself has had this condition? OR any advice about it would be great. We're really worried!

I understand your very worried come and see the mums onHL (not that I want to drag you away) but we have all been thro it on there... and its a specialist website.

It is frightening to think of baby having surgery but having been there you cope. And the sooner they operate the sooner he can hopefully get better.

Hello, My daughter was diagnosed with and has been successfully treated for coa. Long long story, where are you and which hospital. In terms of congenital heart probs it isn't as bad as most. Emerald had her op in June and other than smaller than most she is fine. I rarley come on here, just had an email which is why I had a look, but will happily message as we are through the worst with a happy healthy little girl.....
Scar wise it fades very quickly too.

Hello, my youngest son had coarctation of the aorta along with other defects including transposition of the great arteris and a number of narrowings in various different places and needed emergency surgery at 9 days old. The surgery went well although stopped breathing a few times after surgery due to the other problems should have been picked up at birth and wasn't and so was pretty poorly when rushed into hospital BUT he is now 9 years old and doing really well. Guess what I am trying to say is that even really serious defects that have to be dealt with in emergency have given very positive results. The surgeons that carry out these operations are excellant and the information they give you is fantastic things, have improved immensely in heart surgery for children. You are bound to be worried but since this has been picked up, monitored and a planned operation to correct this will take place thus reducing the risks to the minimum. My very very best wishes and thoughts with you.
