Getting a little scared/worried.

Hi everyone.
I dont post that often anymore as dont have the time/energy but really need some reasurrance!
I'll give you a bit of a background on me. I have a little boy who will be 2 on halloween and i suffered an awful pregnancy and awful labour with him. I was in labour from sunday night til he was born on the wednesday morning at 4.20am with active pushing for around 6 hours. Nothing was going to budge him and ended up with a nasty cut and forceps. I could barely walk for weeks afterwards and still suffer with the odd twinge now. My boy had severe jaundice and ended up on special baby unit which i found out was most likely that severe because of the length of time i had been pushing then the forceps. I also suffered with SPD.
Onto this pregnancy!! My SPD came back at around 16 weeks and ended up back at the physio. It has got gradually worse, im at the stage now where some days i cant actually walk without holding onto what ever i can and bent over. I also have a twised pelvis and my right hip is completly out of line with my left. I was referred to consultant at 33 weeks because of the pain and also because i was measuring big. I have now found out i have gestational diabetes to top everything off!!
Anyway saw consultant at 35 weeks and i asked about a section and she agreed to let me have one but i had to try pain killers first to see if that eased my SPD etc. Well im back on thursday with the hope that she will give me a date for going in to have the section, ill be 37 weeks +1.
I have talked to loads of people about sections and have had really good comments back about it and virtually all of them have said they would do it again. But im still so scared. I jsut wanted some reasurrance that i will be ok!! I have my little boy to think about too. My hubby will be taking 2 weeks off and my mum and sister will be round most days but im still worried i wont cope with the pain and not being able to do much.
I was really hoping that they will take me in next week when ill be 38 weeks but now im scared of it actually happening. Im even scared of the spinal/epidural even tho i had one with my son when i was mid labour so i know i can do it just scared!!

Really sorry for the long post.

First off hon, they will try to section you as close to 39 weeks as possible even after as its safest for baby though your spd may play a part in a slightly earlier one.
I had a spinal and it was brilliant, much better than my epidural that never worked.
Didnt feel the spinal go in just a warm feeling as i lost feeling if that makes sense.
My section was an emergency but i can honestly say i never had any pain at all afterwards,i never used pain killers once i discharged my self from hospital(they wantes me to stay 5 days but i wanted 2).
I pretty much carried on as normal after my section, going shopping, going for walks, making tea, visiting etc-the only thing that i couldnt really do for about 10 days was sit on floor or reach up.
Would def say after have warm salt water baths as its brilliant for scar healing after 6 months mine was practically gone.

Goodluck hon,you will be fine.xxx

if you are realistic about what will happen, then you should be ok.

it will hurt, but if you take pain killers, and listen to what your body is telling you (ie "you need to rest" - so rest!!).

dont lie in bed and not move because you are scared of the pain as you'll get stiff, the it hurts more when you move!

accept any offered help -let someone else do your ironing / cleaning etc etc

dont go out for long days shopping the day after you go home!

only drive when you feel up to it (many insurance companies now say you may drive if your consultant thinks you can - usually if you can do an emergency stop)

they are not as bad as many people think, but you do have to weight up what you thnk is best for you

I had an elective c -sec although i hate that word elective as I did'nt have a choice baby was breech and could'nt be turned !!!
I found that the day after the section was the worst and I felt in loads of pain and became quite emotional. I had'nt slept well due to being in hospital and generally felt that I had been run over !!! I did'nt think that I would get better BUT by day 3 onwards I felt much better able to mobilise, less pain and generally quite well. You may need extra help as you have a toddler so make sure someone is with you for two weeks after. Also make sure you either buy c-sec knickers from NCT or big knickers and loose trousours that go above your scar (I did'nt and found this quite uncomfortable).
I am now 2 weeks post section and feel 'normal' I've been for short walks and going to go for a small drive.

hi, i have the biggest phobia of needles and operating theatres, so when i had to have an elective c section it was my worst nightmare. The worst part of the c section was my panic attack!! i asked for the lower part of my back to be numbed with cream (like they do for children) so i wouldnt feel the spinal going in. (they did this about an hour before they took me in) And i didnt feel it at all. Only a strange sensation like a small electric shock going down my back and leg which lasted seconds. Within mins i was completly numb from chest down. Then then fitted me with a catheter and i was wheeled into theatre.(i had the same numbing cream on the back of my hand for the venflon too, and didnt feel that either) The section was preety quick, lots of tugging and stretching but no pain.
I stayed in for 3 days. For me to be honest the recovery took a few weeks and was painful but the painkillers help. You will need help for the first 2 weeks for sure. Hope my experience easers any fears xx

Thank you all so much for your replies. Sorry its taken me so long to get back on here, just been manic round here and the pain has got so much worse.
I am now booked in for section next thursday when ill be 39+1. I have to be there at 10am as im an afternoon one so im hoping im first or at the top of the list. If i go into labour before then tho im trying for natural but im not letting it get to the stage it did with my first but i did agree with consultant i would try.
you have all reasurred me and im sure i can cope fine! have decided if everything ok im coming home saturday, they can say what they like at the hospital but i would much prefer to be at home lying in my comfy bed with loads of help than lying in an awful hospital bed with no help as they are crap at my hospital.
Thanks again to everyone. xx

hi, i dont want to freak you out or anything but if you do go into labour naturally i would def recommend trying like you say and only having a section as a last resort, i had mine 11 months ago and my scar still annoys me when my son climbs on me and gets the scar. Mine was an emergency tho and not a pleasant experience, so maybe as yours is more planned you will be more mentally prepared. I hope it all goes well for you x
