ttc & breastfeeding?! - Breastfeeding chat

Hi all just wondering if any of you ladies had ttc while breastfeeding or know anyone who has? me and my partner are wanting to have our children quite close together, but still not had return of my af! my daughter wont take to bottles so i csnt really switch to formula just yet and was hoping to breastfeed her for a little while longer anyway... she is on solids now and only tends to breastfeed on a morning/night and sometimes maybe a quick feed during the day. how long did it take your af to return while breastfeeding?

sorry but I have never been able to work out what af is?! I am guessing it is something to do with periods? With all 3 of mine they started again when the babies were 2or 3 months even when I was exclusively breastfeeding. My oldest stopped bf himself at 8 months so I wasn't bf when I got pregnant again when he was 11 months but I do know people that carried on feeding throughout pregnancy and then tandem fed both children when there was quite a close age gap.
You are obviously more likely to get pregnant if you are having periods and have an idea when you are ovulating but it is possible to get pregnant when bf anyway so if I were you I would just start trying as soon as I wanted to get pregnant but carry on feeding especially as your lo doesn't like bottles xx

yeah af stands for aunt flow (period). i have tried reading up about it but only things i have found is that you cant concieve unless you are ovulating and if there is no bleeding then its unlikely that you are. other than that i cant find much else about it, as most people either wait and try when lo is older or have had there af return. i was exclusively breastfeeding til i started weaning lo at just over 4 months (she is just over 6 months now) so i though it may have returned by now as she hardly breastfeeds as much now

Because you arent exclusively breastfeeding anymore your af might come back now. Fingers crossed they doxxx

yup it's def possible, i got pg with triplets when my son was approx 5 wks. never had my af back but was obv ovulating!! altho i was bfing it was only once a day, so i hope yours come back for you soon (who'd of thought you'd be wishing for a period lol)
also have you tried the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles? they;re spose to be really good for combination feeding, my lo loves em xxx

Hi susie bean thanks for that. ive tried every type of bottle going, but she just crys and crys and wont have them. she wont drink it, just spits it out. ive tried different milks and she does it with them all. i tried her with the tommee tippee again today and she just wants to play ping with the teat now. little terror!! lol
oh my, how lovely triplets, i bet that was a shock!

Hi,
I got my af back when my lo was 8 months old, waited until she was 12 before ttc (was still bf). Managed to concieve in the first month of trying. My friend got pregnant when her lo was 6 months old and she didn't get af back and was bf.

hey sarahed, if you dont mind me asking when your af returned was your lo still breastfeeding quite olot and often (a few times a day) or very little? most people say it only returns when feeding is reduced or stopped so wondered if this also includes you?

my af returned as normal 4 weeks after i stopped bleeding from the birth. Typical me.

We've been trying for about 9 months now and no joy.

My periods returned when lo was 8 mths and have been between 32 and 34 days, my next period will be the 1st since completely stopping breastfeeding so waiting to see if ill get back to every 28 days or not. Ive been ttc my 5th for 4mths now. xx
