Hi,

Has anyone had periods whilst still BF? Everything I have read says you don't have periods until introducing food. So I was very shocked today to see blood in my pants (White - typical!). My Lo is only 9 weeks I feed a min of every 3 hours in the day & sometimes I will get 4 at night..
Is itik to now have period? Could it mean
I have hormone probs?

I had one too a few weeks ago! Apparantly its normal. I put it down to my body being a natural baby making machine and it indicating that it can multitask and would be ready to be pregnant again while BF if I wanted! Lol Typical eh? I was enjoying no periods and we're not TTC for another 4 years. Lol

Hi, I too was surprised when I got my period, my LO was 3 months old (only just stopped bleeding after the birth!). I too exclusively breastfed (until recently when we started weaning) every 3-4 hours... My LO is now 7 months old (we are still breastfeeding) and so I have now had 4 periods - the first 2 were strong and long, now back to normal although the gaps between them are longer than before (now 30-35 days, before 28 days spot on)

Me too.
I got mine when ds was 12weeks old as he totally dropped feeding in the night at 10weeks and sleeping through,i was gutted i loved the no period thing,no pms, migrianes etc joy! i now have them every 30ish days (used to be 28 on the button) and i have all the side effects but they r slightly shorter. I do find i have a dip in supply the week before which is total pants as well.
but to be honest i would rather a baby that likes his sleep and put up with the periods lol
i too belive its because you r very fertile ! x

I did not get one till I gave up with my first 2 excusively BF babies. With my 3rd I had my first period when she was 4 months old and then like clockwork ever since....
I was gutted

I got my period shortly after I started weaning at 6 months...

I was really rather pleased though as we wanted to try for another!

Just shows how different we all are... x

Hello CG,
its is normal although a large majority don't get the periods back straight away.

I missed the month my lo was born and have had a period every month since. Thankfully my periods fell back into the pattern they were before pregnancy. I bf my lo for 13months.

Like p.bob I read that this is meant to mean you are more fertiel. Not sure how accurate it is, but I fell pg first month of ttc in Jan. Our lo wast 1st montht too,

I've never taken the pill so I dont know if this makes any difference.

If there is a posititive to this, at least you don't ahve to sit and wonder when your af is going to arrive!

hi,
My lo is 5 months old and still no af. I'm not exclusively bf though, she sometimes has bottles, and she slept through from 9 weeks. I'd probably agree about the fertility as it took us a year to conceive. I have really painful ones tho so glad they're not back yet.

Florence is 7 weeks tomorrow and I started my first period since giving birth today. I couldn't believe it when I saw it- my body is obviously raring to go to house another baby!!

with ,y first son i had on periods till after 6 months and was ebf and now my second son is 4 1/2 months and on period yet. With both my boys i was extremely lucky to conceive first time so i seem to go against the trend.

Thanks girls for all the replies! Well after a few days of spotting it never amounted to anything! So now I'm more confused! Maybe I will be let off for a while or maybe they will start properly next month! I'm keeping stuff in my change bag now just incase tho!
