Any bf mummies also using dummies? When did you start using a dummy? Do you think it affected bf? I have started using one just to get some peace but I'm worried I'm doing the wrong thing.

I'm bf but decided not to use a dummy. One of the reasons was that my friend had a baby 8 weeks before me and when I went to see her in hospital her baby had a dummy in, it just looked really unnatural and weird.
They say that it's best not to put them on dummies etc until bf is well established.
Plus, depending on how long you bf for it can get in the way of their speech a lot and ther teeth can grow around the dummy.
And! My oh was on his dummy until he was six which I think is so gross! lol.
You can sooth them other ways, I know a family friend gave her daughter muslins to chew on and that worked really well!
Hope I've helped!

teeth growing round dummies is a thing of the past and caused by old fashioned cherry end teats!!the ortho ones are fine i used a dummy with my first otherwise he would have been on the boobies 24/7 he stopped using it at 1 when we lost it and i never bought another i did use 1 for a wee while with Abby as she was chewing before sucking and i was getting sore but she doesnt have it now cos she wouldn't keep it in she was worse than maggie from the simpsons lol it has its place and if thats what you think is right for you the go on . speach was not affected in my son who was speaking so early people would stop me and comment .Abby has boobie, bottle, cup, spoon with solids and occational dummy and isnot confused about any of it

I plan on breastfeeding and using a dummy. I had one til i was 4 and my teeth are fine. Also i know some people who have not used dummys and their children just suck their thumbs instead which can be a very difficult habit to break as you cant take their thumbs away lol. I think you should try it if you want to and if you find it doesnt work then it doesnt work.

I have given him it as otherwise I'd go mad! I try to limit it tho to after feeds to help him get over to sleep then i take it away. That way I'm not giving him it when hes hungry or awake and happy. Dummies wouldnt be my first choice but its a while different ball game when you have a screaming baby!

if it works go with it i say!! i had to let Abby chew on one then latch her on as she was "chewing" me before feeding but she seems to have settled and just latches on when she was wee she wanted it but wouldnt keep it in but she hasnt had one for about 3 months now but i was tempted when she woke screaming the other night for no reason but i got her settled without

i gave ruby-anne a dummy from about day three. She wouldnt take a normal one so we left it. Then a few days later we found tommee tippee dummies for breastfed babies. Worked wonders. Gave me that bit of piece i needed. I always see if she is hungry first, if she just messes or want me to go to sleep on then i see if she will take it. ??3 from tesco
Im not worried that shes got a dummy because my other daughter stopped having one when she was ten months, her speach is really advanced.
My nephew knows know that when i look after him i wont talk to him with a dummy in his mouth, and since his speach has come along way.

sorry to go on a bit. stweph

Working as a paediatric speech and language therapist, I can confirm that teeth growing around dummies is NOT a thing of the past! I see plenty of kids with speech production problems caused by dummies but is is down to sustained use over a number of years. Dummies are fine but please, please try and wean your child off the dummy before they begin to talk!!
