2 minute feeding sessions...aaahhh!!!

Hello,

After weeks of problems including nipple confusion leeding to use of nipple shields causing low milk supply and then onto exclusive pumping I have finally at 4 weeks old got baby back onto boob!!

Teddy is now having breastfeed from 7am untill 7pm and then bottle about 9-10 (5oz) and again at 2am and again at 4pm (4oz bottle's made up of half bm and half fm).

The problem is his feeding sessions are never 1 or 2 in the space of an hour but lots of 2 to 10 minute feeds in the space of 3-4 hours, he never seems quite settled between feeds however when he eventually does sleep he does have a good 1-2 hours.

How can I help him feed longer with at least an 2 hour break between feeds (this is why I do a bottle during the night so he has a fair bit to keep him going longer) I read about giving the same boob for two hours but I would like to know how much time actively feeding at each boob should be?

I don't have a problem with supply (probably to much milk if anything) I do have a very quick let down.
Also Teddy sort of daydreams between these 2 minute feeds where he will not go back on, is he to exhausted to breastfeed for the hindmilk?

Any advise would be appreciated. Thank you xx

NOTE: Teddy is 6 weeks old on monday 15th so has been doing this for nearly two weeks, I was hoping by six weeks this would settle and I would finally enjoy feeding him!

Is it mean to try and settle him other ways if he has just been fed just for an extra 15 mins maybe then he may feed for longer and then go longer? Easier said than done when they want food THEY WANT FOOD. Possiby a comfort thing to graze knowing you are there but i am sure around 6 weeks is growth spurt time and it should settle after each spurt. I always read it should take 20 min plus for getting to hind milk but my boy seemed to do 15min or less on one boob only and that was a full feed. If he did take the other he just threw it up so i have been inclined to do feed off one side twice then switch to make sure hind milk was reached then go onto other one for next two feeds but as long as my boobs were feeling ok and not over full that worked for me.
Or if you are still expressing then get a feed in not long after on the boob you last expressed and that will get hind milk into him too. Other than that i am sure there will be others that may have some other ideas but i think it should settle and be nice to enjoy the feeds definately xxx

if he's puttin on weight ok , he may just be comfort feeding, ie not really hungry!. think by 6 weeks, he should be going 2 hours between feeds at least. have you asked your HV for advice.

hello all, thank you for your reply's.
Today Teddy has started feeding a bit longer I think maybe cos I was stuck to a pump for the last 24 hours before, I am still pumping after each feed so if he is still hungry (I'll feed him with a bottle) it kind of takes the preasure off later in the day when there's not much in there.
I had Teddy weighed today also and he weighed 12lb 8 (6weeks old)!!!
I also tried keeping him waiting a bit longer which has helped but it is hard work keeping a hungry baby entertained!
I will let you know in a few days how I am getting on although I think we are just about getting there.
Your say
