Hi ladies,
Just want a bit of advice please on feeding my little man. The last week he seems to be constantly wanting bottles. He only goes 2 hours in the day and then at night he can last 5 hours (i shouldnt complain about this at all i know!!).

Why is he only lasting 2 hours in the day and how (if pos.) can i make him last longer, i seem to be constantly heatin up bottles and sat feeding him.

He is 4 weeks today by the way.

THanks

wow 5 hours is fab! well done little man!

how much does he take? u cld try offering him an extra ounce at feeds and see if he's willing to take it, however bare in mind that the first 6 weeks are almost constant growth spurts so cld just be this, the fact that he's lasting so well at night wld suggest to me that he doesn't need 'hungry' milk, but of course its up to u if u wish to try that but i wld discuss it with ur hv befiore changing milks. xx

Thank you. I make up 5 oz each time and at night he takes 4-5oz of it and in the day hes only taking 2-3 oz but wanting it more regular. He screams when he wants it and as soon as he's had some he's quiet.

cld u try just hanging him out an extra 10-15minutes (obviously not if he's too distressed tho, but if u can calm him somewhat), this shld get him a tad hungrier and then he shld take a little more at the feed, meaning he may last longer between feeds, i did this with ds when he was tiny on hv recommendation (altho he was bfeeding at the time, he wld only snack for a bout 5 mins then an hour later anothe 5-10 mins, then han hour again ....) i distracted him as best i cld for about 10 minutes then fed him and he fed for a good 45mins and didn't wanna feed again for 3 hours, which was v handy! sounds to me like he is just snacking in the day and this is the reason he's doing it, as he's not having enough tile between to get hungry, so he's screaming as soon as he's peckish, topping up a little bit, then when he's peckish again crying for a top up if that makes sense. xx

The other thing you can try to delay the feed is to offer water instead in case they are thirsty! It doesn't always work but is worth a try!

He is probably tanking himself up during the day to go longer at night! I remember complaining about this, well not complaining but more questioning it. I was always worried as I had constantly read about FF babies going longer between feeds compared to BF babies. But all babies are different as everyone says! LOL
Toby always fed little and often. He slept through the night from about 11-weeks old I think but hasn't done it consistently I'm afraid. At 5.5 months he started going 4hr-ly. At 6 months, he barely makes a sound for food, I just stick to 4hrs, but will go over if he's asleep or we're out etc. the only time he moans for food now is when he see's his bottle but I am faffing around putting something on the TV to watch (!!!!!!!) and he suddenly realised its his milk and he'd like it please!!!

If he is capable of taking 5 oz s at night then i would try and get him to finish the bottle in the day and therefore last 4hours instead of the 2hrs. I used to keep a bottle from 1hr since i made it so if he takes 2-3ozs initially let him rest and then just before hour is up offer the rest, you ll probably find hell finish it and go 4 hours from when you first started the bottle!
