How it works: keeping track of threads and finding your way around

Here are the main ways that members  keep track of their forum life. (It makes more sense once you start using it, but here is is, just in case!)

  • The site’s main forum page lists all forum topics, and there will shortly be a drop-down of all forum topics at the top of that page, as on the old site

  • A lot of members use the ‘Latest posts’ and ‘New discussions’ links at the top of each forum page to stay on top of the buzz across the whole forum:

  • You can see all threads you have started, and all your latest posts, on your My Posts page

  • The site can send you an email notification when someone posts on a thread you’ve posted on, or any other thread you’re interested in
  • You can either press the 'Subscribe' button at the top of a thread:

Or, if you post a message, make sure the 'Email me...' box is ticked underneath (like the 'subscribe' box on the old site). (You can control whether this is pre-ticked, on your My Settings page)

  • You can see and change the list of threads you’re subscribed to on your Settingspage:

Quite helpful being able to remind yourself of recent post conversations from your own page as well as your PMs.

Is there a quick way to see in a forum which threads you've subscribed to? I liked it on the old site where the threads I'd subscribed to where highlighted...

i appreciate I can go into "My Posts" to work it out but I liked to see it in the forum too.

Hi Feebs

we've just built a new 'followed threads' page, which shows all the threads you're subscribed to, with the most recently replied-to ones first

Let me know if it works?

Hi Sean,

Sometimes I forget to log on first and post a comment it then asks me to sign up for babyexpert.

If I sign in instead I lose the message that I've just typed. Wouldn't it be easier if you had the option got sign up or sign in after you posted the message so that you can continue to post it without having to retype in?

Thanks

Hi Sean,

Another point I forgot to mention yesterday.

I used to type my messages in Microsoft Word and then copy and paste into a post on the site. As there are so many people to reply to at times I need to read back a couple of pages.

I've tried this with the new site and I keep getting HTML, I tried using the unlink button but it doesn't work.

Thanks!

Hi Loopy

both good points - thanks. We're working on the pasting-messages bug (hopefully that'll be fixed early next week at the latest), and I'll add the log-in poin to the list.

Have you tried the new 'followed threads' page and the edit-message function btw - are they working okay?

Hi Sean,

Yes I've tried both and they are working fine

Thanks
