tummy upset & dehydration

Have also posted this in toddler just to get more respone.

Evie has a tummy upset today, which started after a couple of mouth fulls of milk this morning, she brought it back up after about 10mins. There was loads of flegm/snot (sorry thats gross) in it as she's had a bit of a cold and i assumed thats why she'd been sick.

a while later she had a slice of bacon, which came up again. so since then she's been sipping water and had a nibble on a bread stick around lunch. but even the water she's been sipping has been coming back up.

Between being sick she's fine, just tired and hungry. What i'm slightly concerned about though is she's only had one wee today!? she's potty training so its easy to keep track of how often she's weeing. even that wee was at about 10.30am... none since. should i be getting concerned about dehydration? other than lack of urine are there other tell tale signs?

Is this just normal for a tummy bug, for water not to stay down?

thanks in advance!!

You haven't said how old your lo is, but if she still has her fontanelle, if it is depressed that's a sign. I don't know if it is the same in children, but in adults, if you pinch the skin and it lacks as much elasticity.

Just from lack of wees, and not keeping water down I would ring the out of hours GP or NHS Direct (who will probably just tell you to do that!)

Let us know how you get on, and hope lo is better soon. xx

hi hun .my dd had this a couple of weeks ago ,she didnt have a wee for 48 hours i took her to the docs and said her fontanelle was sunken and she hadnt kept anything down for 24 hrs and no wee either and he said they dont worry about the fontanelle when the child is over 1! then he said not to worry about the nappies cos her mouth was moist so this meant she wasnt dehydrated ....i wasnt happy with this and she was sent to hospital for 24 hrs for observation then sent home where she started with the runs but slowly got better ..it took about 5 days alltogether !! ..
is your lo's mouth moist? if your worried get her seen no harm in checking xxxxxxx

Thanks girls her mouth is moist, and she's two and a half so it's more suitable for toddler forum i guess! Mithical i did ring NHS just to be safe and the doctor didn't seem concerned, just said that it was ok to stop offering her any drinks, even sips of water for a couple or few hours, to give her stomach a rest and then see how she goes after that.

She's just gone to bed as she's absolutely shattered so she'll be getting no more on her tummy. fingers crossed she's not too bad through the night! thanks again xxx

if not keeping water down best thing to do is syringe 2ml inher mouth every 2mins or so, it will just give a tiny blast of moisture.
