Hi Ladies,

I'm after some advice about reusable nappies, it all seems so complicated but i'm sure it's not! I would love to use them this time round, my second baby is due in May. But I know nothing about reusables! So i'm after all you know, tips and advice on where to start and so on.

What brand worked best for you and why?
Where to buy them?
When did you start using them?
What did you start off with and what would you advise?
How do I deal with washing them etc?
And anything else I need to know!

Thank you!

What brand worked best for you and why? bumgenious pocket one size. they are the best in my opinion. my childcare always comments that they never feel wet to touch either, despite being heavy so clearly full of wee. not too long to dry. i like velcro rater than poppers, but they do both.
Where to buy them? online try baba me. they actually have an offer on at the moment
When did you start u sing them? when dd was about 4 weeks old i think.
What did you start off with and what would you advise? 20 bumgenious one size pockets, liners made from a meter of fleece material. cheeky wipes. bucket. 2 mesh bags for bucket. draw string bag for carrying dirty ones when out and about.
How do I deal with washing them etc? put the drawstring bag with the nappies inside in the washing machine. first on a rince cycle. then on a 40 degree, but maybe weekly a 60 degree cycle. every other night.
And anything else I need to know! its an addiction. be warned

How do I deal with washing them et

We just bung them in with our normal wash, and we don't do any extra washing...it just makes us do washing every few days

I use easypeasy nappies and find them great to use. The nursery finds them simple as well. I started off with a trial pack of 3 different newborn nappies at about 4 or 5 weeks old once I'd got the hang of nappies (first child!). The ones which felt the nicest took forever to dry so doing the trial was good. In the end went for 15 birth to potty nappies with 3 wraps and flushable liners. We have a bucket and two mesh bags. When I'm out I just put dirty ones in a normal plastic bag. I do a 60 degree wash with them every other day and throw in other stuff like towels so it works out well. I also have a tumble drier to help dry in the winter.
A few of my friends use different ones and actually they're all good.

Have fun!

I've only just started using them, and asked about them at our local nappy project who were brilliant and gave me a trial hire kit to see how I got on with them.

1) Brand, I really like tots bots, have 5 v1 all in ones, one pocket tot and one v2 easy fit all on one. I like them all and would love to up my collection of easy fit v2's. I also quite like fuzzi buns pocket nappy but not the one size as it has leaked every time I've tried it.

2)Ebay, tesco, there are literally hundreds of websites with different types etc, it's quite confusing which is why I stuck to tots bots after liking them. Ebay don't allow the sale of used nappies though, but there are sites like nappy tree which do.

3) January, when lo was 7 months, because the price of disposables had gone up so much I decided that I'd had enough! Next time I will start earlier but maybe not with a newborn...

4) My trial pack had loads of different types so I was able to see what worked and what didn't without spending loads, some just don't fit some babies. See if your local council have a scheme.

5) Washing is much easier than I thought, I'm terrible at keeping on top of the washing but because the nappies HAVE to be done I do a wash every 2nd day of lo's clothes, like others I store them in the net, close it up and bung in with the rest of his stuff, usually on a 40 but every so often on a 60. I also use paper flushable liners and flushable wipes, just because its easier for me (I'm still lazy at heart!) But lo's poo is solid (tmi) now so its easy.

6)It really does become an obsession, there are so many cute ones available, so much for saving money haha, at least my bin doesn't smell anymore

good luck, hope you find some you love xx

I really like Wee Notions for special occasions, Bambino Mio for everyday, and although I haven't tried BG I've heard they're good. I do like pocket nappies, and if you get ultra adventurous you can always make your own too, lol! x x x

If the other EmilyB reads this, can I have my username back please?

Just wanted to second fillyourpants.com - excellent service and always get nappies within a couple of days! Love the fact that they are now stocking WN too!

I have lots of different types of nappies! My favourites so far are my itti bitti SIO, Teenyfits and WN Small. I started with reusables when my boy was 12days old - I really wanted to start from birth but my boy was in neonatal and they wouldnt allow reusables due to infection control.

I started with size small nappies as I wanted to start from birth and my BTP nappies gave him a huge fluffy bum!

I don't find washing a problem at all - I do a nappy wash every 2/3 days on 40, with a rinse at the end. I do a 60 wash once a week. There actually a lot easier than I thought they would be!x

I too have been a bit bamboozled by all the choice but I found a nappuccino where a fill your pants nappy guru talked me through the choices and it would really helpfu. I also started using this website and that too has been super helpful:
http://www.clothnappytree.com

It's also worth getting a tailored quote from the nappy lady.

Thanks for your advice. We have a nappucchino running locally so will check that out!

I haven't been able to stop myself investing in a few nappies already! Have got some tots bots bamboozle stretchy nappies with motherease rikki wrap and a bumgenius all in one and one size V3. Think i'll try them out on ds!

Do you have to run them through the wash first? x

You have to wash them a couple of times or they won't be absorbant enough. It's called a strip wash. You'll get lots more information from your Nappucino lady and from clothnappytree!
