Morning

Jaimi-Lee has been sleeping in her own room for about 3-4 weeks now. She sleeps in her moses still, but the moses is in the cot to wean her into it. Her mattress arrives on Tuesday so she will be sleeping properly in her cot from then. My question is- She has started rolling over onto her tummy, which is fab but im worried about what happens when she rolls over in her cot through the night, will she suffocate?? She doesnt roll over through the night so far but i think thats because she is in her moses and theres not much room. Im so worried ill find her face down and shes struggling :\(
Also, she has always slept with a little pillow in her moses as i am so worried about flat head syndrome and i read that a softer base for a babies head can help that, but now she's turning over, i should really stop putting her pillow in eh?
She is 17 weeks tomorrow.
Any advice would be fab!!

Hi- I would just remove the pillow & put her down on her back as usual. She may not roll over in her sleep anyway as it probably takes a lot of effort!! If you worry about flat heads then give her planty of tummy time in the day, it shouldn't be a problem at her age as she is moving & turning her head now.

if she is rolling over there is little you can do to stop this during the night, but you can keep the pillow in the cot just do what i do and put the pillow under the fitted sheet, this way they have no way of getting her head under the pillow.

If she goes face down on pillow, will she suffocate??

Personally I would get rid of the pillow. It is easy for baby to roll over and get stuck on it or something. With the rolling we found Grace would roll in her sleep and then be stuck and need turning over. The way we got round this was by using a sleeping bag (she started kicking her covers off anyway) and tucking the bottom under the mattress. She can't roll over but she can still kick her legs. She is 8 months and we've been doing this since March. X

Our little one doesn't roll yet but I did read that once babies start doing this they automatically turn their head to the side so they can breathe normally. I'm sure lots of babies roll in their sleep but you can't be forever going in to check - You'll be shattered!!
sorry haven't got any advice from experience to give

Hi Sharon

I had the same fear when my little man decided sleeping on his belly was much more comfortable after a few times of turning him over and having him scream bloody murder we decided just to leave him, as long as you put the baby down on their back to start with it is absoloutly fine for them to go onto their tummy and sleep because being on the back first lets the LOs lungs expand, My little one who is 6 n half months has decided that he now likes to sleep on all fours with his face into the mattress!! I'm not panicky anymore because i know he will be fine but its really scarey at first you think oh my god they cant breath, when in fact they can and are just comfy lol They love having us nervous wrecks!!

Good luck to you and LO for first time in the cot!!

Good post, as this is the same for me, as Skye is still in her moses basket and can roll over, so was dreading putting her in her cot.

I dont know if its right or not but when Connor started rolling i didnt worry because I figured if he was strong enough to roll on his front and back in the day why should it be any different at night?
I thought if he rolled into an uncomfortable position he would just roll back.
