Hi Ladies, hope you and all your little ones' are well.
To be honest i probably should post this in the toddler forum but i cant bear to leave baby...
Erin is 14mnths old and for the past month has been biting big pieces of wood from all four sides of her cot! I'm really worried that pieces of wood will get stuck inside her... she doesnt always eat them as i find chunks on the floor and also on her sheets but i'm really worried. I dont know if we should get her another cot (hers is a cot bed from argos think its the sailsbury set?) but if we get her another one, will she just chew this? We dont have lots of money, so dont want to buy one if she will just do the same? I really dont know what to do, mt dad suggested putting pepper on the wood, but i think that's cruel?
Help!! Has anyone had a similar experience as i dont know anyone who has?
Any advice gratefully received
Katie, mummy to Erin 14mnths and Joe 7 weeks. x

hmm.. interesting...I cant be of loads of help as my daughter is only 5 1/2 months. To ensure she doesnt get her arms of legs caught in the bars, we have covered the edges of the cotbed with her cot bumper, crib bumper and her crib mattress. This is what we had on hand at the time. I heard some people buying two cot bumpers to protect the baby from the cot.

Could you do something similar? When does she do it, when shes bored with her toys, when she doesn't want to go to bed, whens shes hungry? xxx

Hi

My niece is 15 months old and she has been doing this.
Apparently it's a form of teething. My sister went out and bought a teething bar from Mothercare, attached it to my niece's cot and now the cot eating has stopped!!!
The Health Visitor and Doctors all say it's a form of teething and nothing to worry about. Obviously be careful of the bits of wood! but it's perfectly normal.
I think he's teething hon. They do grab the weirdest items! My niece eats my mobile phone and my hangbag straps!!

I think this is quite common, Barney's cot has plastic strips on top of the wood down the side to prevent it (Millie's cheaper cot didn't!) I think you can buy plastic strips to put on that stop them being able to chew lumps off, I think Blooming Marvelous might sell them but I'm not sure.

My oldest daughter did the same. They do sell teething bars in jo jo maman bebe and they have free delivery. For my daughter now I have a double duvet cover on the cot and the mattress on top so it works as a cot bumper aswell and she has been fine.
