i have been talkin to my friends about the writing the alternative baby book and they all think its a brill idea lol so i have come on to ask you wonderful ladies if you would like to give me your pearls of wisdom!!!!
think ... im a new first time mum what bit of advice did i get that was
A:- helpful
B:- worst ever
C:- so rediculous it was scary
D:- so rediculous it was funny
you get the idea
i loved the bit of weaning adviceone of you wonderful ladies posted.... wean in a road side service station then you don't have to tidy up the mess lol:lol::lol:

A- Helpful... - Always to point a little boys willy down so you don't get leaky nappies! :lol:

B- To dress them in day clothes for day and babygrows for night even when newborn. I do this now and have been doing it since 3 weeks old or so but when he was just born it was babygrows all the way, i had enough hassle without forcing his arms into diddy clothes!

C- Before I had him someone said that I would be kept in a week in hospital because I'd never changed a nappy - unbelievable - think she was just scaring me & being spiteful

D- My grandma actually called my mum and told her she'd seen a pic of my lo wearing denim trousers and told my MUM to tell me that I shouldnt dress lo in denim!!!

A- take things as they come, it is hard but iy will get easier.
b- to burp them every ounce, this DID NOT work for my baby! LOL
C- I was told i would die in labour as i was in so much pain with food poisioning i thought id die but i only needed gas and air! hateful gits scared the crap outta me! LOL
D- to point their cots to the south so they sleep better!?! WTF??? LOL

Hi Fea,

A- Buy more nappies, wet wipes and cotton wool than you think you will need cos you will use them!

B- Give lo a dummy after his injections, even though he had never had a dummy, cos it will take away the pain...that was from the nurse who gave the injections!!!

C- Put Brandy in baby's bottle help him to sleep (my grandad)

D- Put some guiness in baby's bottle/food so their getting plenty of iron (my nan and grandad)

I could go on...good luck with your book Fea! xxx

see thats what i mean there is some really mad advice out there that makes me laugh my head off now but oh how serious did i take it while pregnant with the first...god im so gullable lol

a - to let them get themselves off to sleep (not let them cry but also they don't have to have six hours of rocking, singing, bouncing, ect... I was very fussy first time mum... "blush")
b-to fill baby's bottle with sherry and finish the rest of the sherry bottle myself while feeding baby bottle to lo to ensure goodnight sleep (thank you mil!)
c-I was told by a hv that lo was too skinny and I ought to deep fry everything she eats to add weight
d- to let lo air outside each day to avoid build up in her lungs

when we did this at home with my friends we were in stitches at some of the mad things that were said to us its such a funny insite isn't it lol

My hubby went all "caveman" on me!

God knows where that came from - when I had an obvious bump he held my hand and pumped his chest out like he was some kind of fertility god! Now he walks at least 10 paces in front! Maybe its time to get "Gok'd" lol Not so proud to be walking with the woman who wears baby sick as her new perfume huh!!!

lol poor you older mum x my hubby got sprayed with breastmilk the first time we had sex lol so its american sex with the bra on till i gave up feeding 3 weeks ago

Hi fea,
A helpful, sleep when your baby sleeps and if they wake at night for a feed do it in the dark and dont change nappy unless its dirty.
b worst ever. dont pick the baby up every time it cries, you'll make a rod for your back... my baby my rod my back!

C so ridiculous it was scary, leave baby outside at the bottom of the garden, crying is good for them it excercises their lungs!

D so ridiculous it was scary. this was from a hv as well, when I asked if I could have peanuts whilst i was b/f she said well I wouldnt the baby might choke on them.

Oh isnt it great good luck with the book, a real book written by a real mum, not Gina I've got no kids but know everything Ford.

I was told that about not changing nappy at night unless dirty either but the one time I didnt change it, it was soaked and leaked everywhere!

Oh yeah and dont change a nappy as soon as lo seems 2 have done a poo, as he WILL do more in the clean nappy! Now I give it 15 mins and then change him lol

LOL Tigerlily - and regarding those nappy changes - especially on boys, you have to be able to change one quicker than a formula one pit stop! God help you if you forget to get a clean nappy out first!xx

When I was changing Gabe on the floor once he weed and it went right on the crotch of my pjs! Looked like I'd wet myself! little monkey.

A - helpful - if someone offers you help - TAKE IT!!!! regardless of whether you think you can cope or not - if you dont they'll stop asking and you'll regret it later when you really need them

B - worst - HV told me to wake baby to feed during the day as he was sleeping 5-7 hours and this was too long with out a feed!!! Total crap - although he was my third I took the advice and ended up totally f***ing up his routine - couldnt get him to sleep and he started waking again during the night - HV's DONT KNOW EVERYTHING!

C - Everything everyone said to me was scary when I was pg with my first!!!!

D - When I was having my second I was having an internal exam after my waters broke (I had emergency section with first) - the mw fiddled about a bit then said "I think I can feel a scrotum" !!!!!! " As long as its not mines" I replied. She thought babies 'bits' were hanging out and called for the Dr who rushed in and gave me another internal examination. "That, my dear, is not a scrotum - that is a very damagged and scarred cervix!". (ended up with internal scan and due to damage caused by firset section had to have another one). Thought this was hilarious as mw was totally mortified at what she had said!!! - Oh - and my second was another girl!
