I "think" and i stress this is only a think, lol you would have to put in to claim maternity allowence so you would not get 90% for first 6 weeks or what ever it is and you would get it as long as you keep all your pay slips to prove how much National Insurance contributions you have paid.
hope this helps x

I was a temp hun and would have been entitled to SMP if I had consistantly worked for them but unfortunately I had a 2 week break which they used as a loophole to not pay me. In the end I claimed MA through the government and was better off as you don't pay NI or tax so got the full amount. If I remember rightly you have to work 26 weeks of the previous 66 weeks up to the baby is due so its quite good if you're not working constantly or you can tack this time onto your previous employment xxx

I was a temp and was entitled to smp payed by my agency. The proviso is that you weren't pregnant when you started and you work until your qualifying week (same as usual smp)
The only difference is you aren't entitled to 'paid' time for antenatal checks although you are entitled to unpaid time. And you arent entitled to have your job kept open.
The only worry is that when you announce your pregnancy as you are temp it is very easy for them to no longer need you! But in this case you would get materity allowance!

Hope this helps

MA is the same amount as the 33wks of SMP, so around the ??125 a week mark, and is payable for 39wks.

hi yeh, just to back up malkymum, as long as u work 26weeks of the 66weeks prior to ur edd then u should qualify for MA which is ??125ish per week. x

there are qualifying earning limits, but it is pretty low.
If you temp and have varying income, you only have to send in 13 weekly payslips, and can pick the ones in which you earned the most.
Your say
