Hiya Girls,

Just after a bit of reassurance really! My little boy is 3 weeks old tomorrow and i'm a little concerned with his growth! both HV and MW keep saying he is weight gain is really good but i'm concerned it is too much!

When born he weighed 7lb, at 6 days old he weighed 7lb 8oz, then at 1 and a half weeks he weighed 8lb but then yesterday, at 19 days old he weighed 8lb 14oz! that's 14oz in 1 WEEK. Surely this weight gain is a bit much? if he keeps this up he will be huge!

He is solely breast fed which is taking its toll on me as i'm sure you can imagine the amount in which he feeds, and the last couple of days when he isn't feeding - he's screaming and has been getting up at 4am and not going back down, grrr.

Anyway, i was just after your opinions on this!

Thanks =)

Have they plotted him on the graph? If he is following that ok then there is no issue and the MW and HV would have said if there was! The weight gain can be erratic in the early weeks so I wouldn't worry!

My little girl put on 2 1/2oz's only one week and a couple of weeks later put on.... 1Ib 4oz in one week! However she was playing catch up from the low weight gain in previous weeks!

I would also like to say it is fab that he has put on that much being solely breastfed - you are doing really well! Unfortunately I am supplementing as I wasn't producing enough milk. When I introduced the formula my lo started to put on the weight!

You're doing a totally fab job! My little boy did the same-breastfed babies do tend to gain weight quickly to begin with then it slows down.

It's crazy the first couple of weeks but things will get easier-he'll go longer between feeds and you'll start to feel more human again-make sure you eat and drink LOTS, i have a pint of water during every feed, even snack during the night xx
