Just read title. The nappy isn't 10 months old!! DOH!

I mean I can't change my 10 months old's nappy!!

Hi as I've put in the title, I'm having major issues with changing my dds nappy. She WILL NOT lie on her back so I can change it. I've tried distraction with songs/ toys etc. But she'll want the toy then will roll over & bang the toy on the mat. I've tried holding her down but she's v strong lol & will manage to roll on to her tum. I don't want to b too forceful with her as I dont want to hurt her. I've also told her off which does nothing!! She also won't stay still on her tum so I can put her nappy on backwards. Can anyone help?!!

maybe no help, but I stopped changing mine on the floor/mat/changing station, etc and found that with a bit of practice I could change them quicker lay on their back across my lap, using the hand furthest away to hold their legs up and the free one to do the wiping, putting nappy underneath and then doing up, meant I ended up being a lot quicker and there was a restriction on their movements as they weren;t able to wiggle as much and couldn't roll, simply because there wasn't any space to!

I haven't yet experienced this, but a friend told me she had exactly the same problem. Her solution was to change to pull up nappies instead so she could change him stood up. Not sure how practical etc this is, but thought it was worth mentioning.

This sounds horrid but doesn't hurt them, sit by their side and put on leg over their chest so the are laying in the back of your knee it stops them from being able to roll and you dont need to press down to hold them

We had this issue at about the same age and it lasted about a month. If there's no poo I change the nappy whilst she's standing up. If there is poo I prefer her to lie down. I find that if I give her something small that she is not usually allowed to play with it keeps her entertained long enough for me to do it - something like keys or handcream usually works. i give it to her before I put her down, wait until she is engrossed and then put her down and she doesn't usually notice!

Oh the memories have just come screaming back! I remember hours of chasing Abby round getting increasingly frustrated, while she crawled away getting wee and poo everywhere and loving every second!

In the end (and after a lot of Dettol and 1001 stain remover on the carpet!) I switched her to pull ups and it was a lot easier! Abby was standing by this point, but you can even get pull ups on while they are crawling away from you at high speed. xxx

KaCee I think Aila would have a hairy cnary if I tried that sh goes mental when I use the strap on changing mats when we're out and about! She's very strong willed - wonder where she gets it from?!

With my 16mth old I give her the bag of baby wipes or a clean nappy to hold whilst changing her. It keeps her fascinated just long enough to get the job done.

We changed to pull-ups when Sebastian startd doing this but he still wears proper nappies at night and the only way I can get him to stay on his back is to blow gently on his tummy while I'm doing it. I think he loves the sensation so stays still.

Pampers Easy Up pants are the way to go...............!!! Took me a while to realise that you can tear the sides when they've done a poo.... LOL>>>>DOH>>>!!!
Still has normal nappy at night but wouldn't lie still for a second so gave up ! S XX

Stickers are good - get them excited at the prospect of getting one, stick one on their hand and it takes their attention to it trying to peel it off - by then nappy change complete I buy cheap sticker books from ?? shops. Pullups are good, we use them when we are out, but they are less absorbent so you end up having to change more nappies x

Hi thank you all so much for your advice. I've ordered a rabbit harness, I didnt realise they made such a thing. My dd will lie still on changing units when we're out because of the strap. My OH put his leg over her this morning & that worked too. Pull ups sounds great they may end up being my last resort! Thanks again x
