How do you move onto mashed food?

My daughter is 7 months old and I'm struggling to get her to eat ANYTHING which has the slightest lump in it!! Her food is totally pureed and she won't eat it any other way! I've tried her with Weetabix (gagged and choked) and slightly lumpy breakfast packet cereal but again gagged on that. I gave her a biscotti biscuit thing today and she was really gagging and I had to drag her out of her chair and whack her back. My son was great at eating lumps, etc, and I just don't know what to do with her. I'm worried that she'll never eat mashed food!

my little man wouldn't take solids until he was 7mths, he's nearly 10mths now and is doing really well with lumps and finger food. I was really worried that he wasn't eating properly it was only when I stopped worrying he got better. If I were you I'd leave finger food on her table for her to play with and it won't be long before she gets the hang of it.

have you introduced finger food? I gave my daughter some bread sticks at first and let her suck and crunch down on them - also rice cakes. Once she mastered these I then gradually made her food thicker, then lumpier. Best of luck xx

hiya... I'd just keep on with it & every time she has a bit lumpy food in her mouth the do a huge "yeah!!!" & clap. daniel loved being a good boy and after months eventually managed lumps... A HV at the local weigh in clinic made me panic and worry as she kept saying to me "if you miss the window he'll end up a big fussy eater!" But I can tell it's a pile of crap what she said!!! You can't force a child to eat but you can try things everyday and persevere with it... I mean it will happen one day, you don't get 10 years olds still eating purees, do you? lol :\) I found that he would eat 4month jar foods and I'd add my own vege lumps in it, as I found the 7 motnhs jar foods with lumps were TOO lumpy for him, He's now 19 months old and eats what we eat and is defintaly not a fussy eater! lol xx
