I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread with our handiest hints we've learned snce having a baby! So add your ideas below!

Lansinoh My Mummy's Milk bags for freezing milk are a perfect size for weaning spoons, to keep them nice and clean while on the move.

Muslin squares tied around the baby's neck work better than a small bib!

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

if your baby is tiny, put socks on the outside of their sleepsuit it holds everything in place

socks instead of scratch mits

hot water bottle in moses basket to pre-heat so baby will settle without trouble!

have some spare babygrows and vests downstairs as well incase they are sick or poop everywhere

Always carry a muslin! If you are bf pop one under your boob to catch any dribbles and then use it under baby's chin to catch any sick.

When weaning, tinned and frozen fruit and veg can make quick meals and are great just to keep in the cupboard for emergencies!

I second the muslins as bibs! I have just found this one out since my dd refuses to wear plastic bibs and pulls them off in disgust!

Maybe we should have another post '101 uses for a muslin!'

i used to use terry nappys for winding, this time i will be buying some hand towels. i find muslin too thin.

cut up a thin towel for cleaning early poops, rather than using cotton wool. or invest in cheeky wipes, which are essentially the same.

Great thread!

When you're cooking your dinner make extra portions to freeze and use when you're short of time or too knackered to cook. Much better and cheaper than a ready meal!

What are muslins for lol! I have a packet that was bought for me and I havn't even opened them yet lol!

If you are formula feeding bring clean bottles, measured out powder in a dispenser and a flask of hot water to bed with you so you don't have to go downstairs to make bottles - I am amazed everyday how long water stays hot in a good flask.

Put muslins in lots of places - arm of the sofa, side of the moses basket stand, next to the bed, in the car - I got into the habit of doing that because I never had one in my hand when ds was sick, and keeping them all in the cupboard in his room just didn't work! Also good for daddies who never remember either. Helps to stop those, "Uh oh, honey, can you pass me a muslin square?" moments...

If the other EmilyB reads this, can I have my username back please?

This is something I wish someone had told me before I had my DD; know that whenever you are going through a stressful bit, for example, LO is Waking in the night, LO is crying for no reason, colic, whatever it may be, you will stress and maybe cry about it at the time, then somehow. It sorts itself and a few weeks later you will wonder what on earth you were stressing about and the next time will not be as bad

Haha by the sounds of it I need more muslins!!

no hints to add but I agree about muslins, I have what seems like a million but still could do with more. my son is a sicky baby, and I have very fast let down so feeding time can get messy! I have muslins all over my house!

I kept a bum and boob basket in the lounge with some spare breast pads, muslins, nappies, cream etc in so i didn't have to run up and downstairs all the time and it looked really pretty too.
sock-ons from mothercare WORK!
Muslins are worth their weight in gold.
let your oh have time on their own to figure it all out for themselves, it builds confidence and bonds.
keep something soft on the bathroom floor so that when you wake up for feed and deperately need a wee you can put baby down!!!!

always keep a spare outfit (we tend to just do vest & sleepsuit) in your changing bag in case of accidents when out.

Put a muslin on changing mat under baby. Soaks up wees and poos and saves babys clothes. Also can use it to pat dry babys bum after cleaning.

When you start weaning, buy the bibs with arms and make sure they are plastic, not fabric otherwise you will end up washing them all the time. My baby likes to "help" by grabbing the spoon every mouthful. I don't push her hands all the way out of the sleeves until we are 2/3rds of the way through the meal so that it doesn't take all day but she still gets practice at feeding herself.
