Has anyone noticed that formula has gone up AGAIN?!

And does anyone know where its cheapest??

SMA which I used to use has gone up to ??7.59 in my local shop (used to be ??7.15 just a few weeks back!) and same in boots. Cow & Gate which I now use is ??6.19 in the local shop but in Boots it is ??6.99!

Going up again! Argh!!! I use aptamil and find that they are pretty similar (few pence difference) in boots and asda, but the cartons are about 5p cheaper in asda. Still..they've gone up 50p a tin since the beginning of the year!

It won't be long before they are ??10+ a tin. Personally, I think the government are encouraging the companies to put the prices up so more women choose to breast feed their babies. And of course they'll get their cut out of the rising prices through taxes.

I can see them going up even more too. When you go through 36 scoops a day it certainly adds up! I think I'll put Gabe on follow on when he's 6 months so I can get the points and offers.

I noticed this today - have been paying ??6.81 or 89 for SMA gold in asda. It's now ??7.20 in asda & ??7.50 in boots!!!!

Flaming ridiculous :x

I know! I've changed to C&G now for different reasons but the price is defo a bonus.

how much is Aptamil now then? when i last looked i think i paid ??7.69 in Tesco?

fortunately, i've bought her last box, as she is giong on cows milk now!

4 years ago you could buy it at clinics, and it was ??4.80 a box (all formula milk was), yet ??6.79 in Asda. of course, now due to the push to get everyone to bf, you cant buy it there now!

ive not noticed aptimil going up its still (for the moment) ??7.98 BUT the good night miln i buy (hipp organic) has gone from ??3.99 to ??4.79!!!
i couldnt believe it! Well actually the nearest place i can get it is another town in wiatrose and its still ??3.99 but im betting it will go up in a week or so, tescos has gone up!

Thats awful. I never had to buy Kara any food as she was on special food that I got on Prescription as she was prem. I am using this still and putting her on cows milk this week. At those prices I am glad I got it on prescription.

I know it's so expensive! We switched to Cow and Gate (cos of Lily's sicky ness) and were surprised it was cheaper than SMA which we had been using.

TigerLily - is Gabe better on the Cow and Gate??

He is *fingers crossed* much better. He is being a bit sick when I wind him, and after feeds, but then he goes all the way through to his next feed with either nothing at all or a tiny dribble. It's a total change to what he was. We had runny poo for the first day but it's settling now and he seems to be doing normal poo, nothing like the massive hard lumps he had on SMA (sorry tmi!) He also seems to like the new milk and is having 9oz easily.

I can't believe I'm up before him!!!!

Tigerlilly can't believe your up b4 him either you should be taking advantage and sleeping !!

Someone told me Savers do the ready made cartons of formula really cheap so i'm going to go in there later to see. A ready made carton of Aptamil is 59p in Asda now, i always buy 5 every week for when we're out and about but didn't bother this week just going to take formula with me.

my mum keeps talking about the girl next door to her getting formula milk at the clinic - and that was only a year maybe 2 ago - did clinics stop selling it only because of a push to get people to b/feed does anyone know?

i paid ??6.89 for a tin of SMA gold in boots yesterday - seems the prices vary in different places of the country too as someone else mentioned paying more than this in boots... i find it more expensive in tesco and asda.. its awful how much it is!

In Asda on Thursday I paid 50p for carton of Cow and Gate, cheapest I had seen it in a supermarket. Today my OH went in for a few bits at our local coop and he paid 75p- how can one shop justify such a price difference??

It is probably all part of the growing campaign to punish mothers who dont breastfeed, most government promotions seem to fail to persuade mums who want to ff to change their minds and breastfeed so they are probably hoping that by bumping up the tax or whatever on formula that some poorer mums might be unable to afford it and have to breastfeed, therefore helping to improve breastfeeding figures, therefore making the government campaigns look successful when they actually are not. Just my view x

To the best of my knowledge to only tax on formula is the same 17.5% VAT that is paid on most food so I'm not sure we can blame the government for this one. I think formua has just gone up in price like most food has recently, you just notice it more when it is so bloody expensive to start with! I'm sure most of you know this already but if you claim certain benefits you are entitled to vouchers to help with either the cost of formula if you are ffing or fruit and veg for you if you are bfing.

All to do with the credit crunch then. I dont find it very fair that it goes by your income as to whether you can get vouchers to help feed your baby. Surely all new mums should be entitled to these? I didnt qualify as me and my partner work but my baby still needs nutrition just as much as others. Not fair as usual : (

Do I qualify for Healthy Start?
You qualify for Healthy Start if you're pregnant or have a child under four years old AND:

you or your family get Income Support, or
you or your family get income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, or
you or your family get Child Tax Credit (but not Working Tax Credit unless your family is receiving Working Tax Credit run-on only*) and have an annual family income of below ??15,575 or less (2008/9)
OR:
you're pregnant and under 18 years of age

A little excert from http://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/en/fe/page.asp?n1=1&n2=2

we didnt qualify because although we get CTC we earn more than the required amount, and when we didnt earn more than that amount we got working tax credit (the two amounts are the same), so they had us over a barrel.

They sure would come in handy now though.

I think formula has just gone up in price in alignment with everything else - we used to sell the small tubs at about ??3.50 (or similar) but now its over ??4 for those.

Aren't the follow on/growing up milks cheaper for after 6 months tho? And you can get offers/points on those i think...?
