Hi

I hope you ladies can help me pls. I confess I am usually a lurker on here and dont post often but you all seem really helpful so here goes.

I bf my little girl, Caitlin, until she was 24weeks and then mixed bf and ff until now (8months). We are weaning with solids pretty well but I'm confused as to whether I should now be giving follow on milk or just to continue on SMA first until a year? Any ideas?

Thanks
Jx

it is completely up to you, the follow on milk is suitable from six months and i think has added iron etc in it but if she is having a balanced diet then should get what she needs from that. there is no need to change if you are happy on stage 1 x

Im switching to follow on milk when my little girl is 6 months only because you can get money off vouchers for it. Its basically the same as first milk but with more iron. The companies only started doing it so they could get round the strict government rules and advertise their brand.

If you sign up to the baby club that the brand of milk you use has they send you vouchers periodically.

cameron has been on it from 6 months, he doesnt drink loads of milk so i wanted him to benefit from the extra iron in it.
its totally up to you though, 1st stage is also fine until 12 months x

Does it have extra iron? Just that they say on their website and on the tin that you don't have to change to follow on milk if baby is happy on sma gold. I think follow on milk is more important when you move from breast feeding to formula after 6 months. You can get points on follow on milk at tesco and boots. They don't give them for first stage milk as it can be seen as a promotion and therefore might put some women off breastfeeding (!)
