hi i actually started a link in children with special needs and not had much luck, was just wondering if there were other mums who'd been through or going through this with their children, guess i'm wondering just how rare or common it is figured there are so many mums on here i can;t be the only one?

DVM, basically means my child has delayed vision and is not yet seeing (he's nearly 3months), they apparently 'fix' themselves by about 6 months but it's a bit of a waiting game. You tend to notice because they don't do the usual stuff like stare at faces or objects let alone follow them or even smile.

Appointment went fine thank you. At the moment they are still going with dvm as they said his eyes seemed to have all it needs to see and he definitely responded to light but not much else, so i have to go back in 8 weeks and see if its fixed itself, 15 April., then if not they'll start to do more tests but didn't want them done this early as still time and not nice for lo (obviously!)
yes got a vista coming tomorrow (26/2) looking forward to it as with any luck she'll have some helpful hints. haven't gone mad with buying toys but got myself a few flashing, moving reflecting thingys.

How's your little lot doing, esp new little alex?

That's fantastic that he's responding to light already! I bet your soo impressed with him!
How did your appiontment go with vista?
Did they give you loads of info an advice?
Are they going to do diagnostic's on him testing wise? Or have they not mentioned what tests they will do?
sounds like everythings going great! how's he doing with the toys?
he's doing ok thanks, he has some more problems with his eyes than first thought but he'll be ok after all it could be worse!
hope your ok hun take care xx

oh i know what you mean, it could always be worse i think that's what makes everyone get through it, i'm so sorry to hear he has more problems than first thought but i hope that he's doing well anyway and doing the usual baby things like sleeping, eating and stinky nappies!

Vista appointment went ok thank you they flashed stuff at him and just told me to basically do what i'm already doing, not seeing them again until after next visit to specialist. i've not been told what tests they will do yet, i'd imagine they'll not decide until they see him again but they had mentioned mri last time around.

i am very pleased he responds to light as it's meant to be a very good sign but it seems to only be very bright light or sun in his eyes at the moment, i've yet to get him interested in colour flashing toys but am still trying. i keep putting rattles in his hand which he manages to control very well and happens to love tom jones on the radio! so i'm pleased for the small things that give him pleasure.

Anyway still trying to get his attention so hopefully time will fly and all will be resolved. hope all is going well with you and you've been enjoying mother's day with your bundles of joy.

Hello! I came across your postings when googling "Delayed Visual Maturation." My daughter was recently diagnosed with this and I am agonizing over it. Everything that you wrote in your postings from February and March are things that I've thought or felt... even your little one looks like my Isadora. If you are still on this site and checking this (this is my first posting and I'm not great at this chat/blog stuff), I'd love to hear how you are doing and what I might expect.
Thanks!!!
