Hia
my little girl is 4 weeks old. She normaly feeds every 3 hours during the day but the last 2 days she has been screaming for more food within an hour of finishing. She only weighs 6lbs 13oz and is drinking 4-5oz of milk so I know she is having plenty to last her a few hours. Would you try to encourage her to wait another hour or would you feed her whenever she asks for it?
thanks

Personally, if she's screaming for it and taking another good feed (say another 3+oz) then I'd feed her. She could be having a growth spurt.
If she's screaming for it and only having a few mouthfuls, she could be comfort feeding. If this is the case, do you use a dummy? That may be worth a try

yea i use a dummy in the day and it does settle her. I haven't tried giving her a bottle yet I have been settling her with a dummy and she goes back to sleep so maybe it is just comfort she is after.

If shes settling with dummy, shes probably just wanting comfort rather than being hungry. If she doesn't settle I would feed her as any routine you have will go off track with growth spurts etc

Personally, I always went for demand feeding (but I was bf), so I would have done the feeding every 2 hrs, but if she will happily take a dummy then give her that! These first few early weeks are very much 'try it and see'! She may well not get in a routine for a while, just relax an enjoy these first few weeks with her and don't stress about a routine xxxx
