After reading the recent posts about ff car seats i'm really concerned about a car journey that we have coming up. My daughter is 13 months and just on the 9kg limit. We are going on a 5 hour plus car journey at the weekend and I now have no idea what to do!!I never heard of ff car seats being dangerous until I read these threads. Some ladies have said that you should just cross there legs if there is not enough room, but i can't do this for the whole 5 hours. Plus, is that not dangerous too, surely itc an't be good for their backs. What would you do?

I think i'd just put her in a ff seat and drive carefully! We've had lo in his ff car seat since he was 9kg because his legs were so long he had them crumpled up and we did a few 7 hour car journeys. Obviously its up to you at the end of the day though.
Hope the journey goes well.

Goodness - i really didnt mean to firghten you. I am such a paranoid person and worry baout everything - toby has 2 movement monitors going at once!

The chances of anything going wrong are so slim (i have my sensible head on today) that i really wouldnt worry too much. Maybe look at alternatives when you get home. I do feel that it should be a legal requrement but you do have to have perspective as well on it.

Just make sure it is fitted properly - that you drive carefully - that you have good breaks so you dont get too tired and if you are still woried about it then look at alternatives when you return x

ciara is now in a forward facing seat (shes 11months) and had totally outgrown her 'babyseat'. We have made trips to london, scarborough etc (we live nr halifax) and she has been totally fine. in fact she enjoys it a lot more because the passenger can chat to her and she has space for her legs, plus she is in more of a 'sat up' position which is better for her. As long as you have it fitted properly it shouldnt be a problem.

When i was buying ciaras new carseat the salesman at halfords talked me out of buying the ones that would last until shes about 12....claiming that they provide general safety for all ages, whereas the ones that only last unitl they are 4 are designed specifically to secure and provide safety for younger children.-i mean, maybe he just wanted us to spend more money and end up buying 2 seats eventually..but something to bare in mind if your worried.

Another thing to remember is that the majority of accidents happen within a 5 mile radius of your home...longer journeys are proven to be less dangerous as you don't know the roads so well and so don't get complacent.

If we worried about everything we'd never go out. As long as you've taken all the precautions you can you'll be fine...but accidents do happen...and they are just that accidents.

Your say
