Kate Silverton has announced she is four months pregnant after giving up hope of ever having biological children of her own

The 40-year-old BBC Newsreader conceived naturally after four unsuccessful IVF attempts. After each attempt failed, leaving her exhausted and then heartbroken, she and her husband, former Royal Marine Michael Heron, opted to stop the treatment. Kate said they were talking about adoption when she discovered she was pregnant.

‘We were planning to get a puppy so we could have a furry baby instead. I found out I was pregnant in February.’

Kate, who married Michael in December last year, said she had decided to make the announcement after ‘a shaky three months’ but said she is ‘absolutely thrilled.’
