Anyone's lo had an op for a squint? Went to hospital yesterday with ollie, he was brave ( thought we would have major probs with the drops!) and he is longsighted, so will need glasses, and they are going to moniter him prob for a year or two to see if the glasses improve his squint ( a convergent squint), he may need an op in the future. I know there are people who's kids go through far more worrying things than this, as the op is simple, and wouldn't reall y remember it when he is older, but It breaks my heart to think of him going through that.

Hi hun, Isaac is 2 this month and he developed a squint shortly after he was 18 months old, he recently had his appointment at the hospital and they said he is longsighted, more so in hi left eye than his right eye but nothing they would want to give him glasses for at the moment, he alos has a squint but as it is not there all the time, mainly when he is tired or focussing on things they are not treating it at the moment either, they are going to see him again in six months to see whether things are improving or not, then they may consider glasses, patching or corrective surgery. It is horrible to think of your lo going through any sort of operation and to be honest I am trying to put it to the back of my mind at the moment. Hope the glasses work for your lo. xx

Thanks for replying ! To be honest, I'm putting it at the back of my mind at the moment aswell, as it wouldn't be for a while anyway. I just hope he will keep the glasses on, and won't break or lose them!!! Have a good easter hun XX

I'm sure he will keep them on once he is used to them and I bet he looks really cute. Isaacs eyes took ages to go back to normal after the drops, even the next morning his pupils were massive, he4 looked possessed

yeah, he does look cute! The drops affected him just for the rest of the day, the sun really hurt his eye's, wish they could have warned us and we could have brought his sunglasses!

Luckily I knew that the drops would do that as my eldest son had them when he was younger so I was ready with the sunglasses, although he wouldnt keep them on. Isaac didnt get his drops in till 2pm so I think thats why they lasted into the next day too, he has huge eyes as well so that didnt help.

well, lo got his glasses today! He look's really cute in them, but I did feel sad (is that bad, when there are children much worse of?) but he won't keep them on for long, says he can't see the telly!!! I suppose he'll get used to them!

I know what you mean about feeling sad. When Isaac developed his squint I was really low about it, all I could think was ' my beautiful baby boy' especially as it was his eyes, everyone has always commented on his eyes and said they are the most beautiful blue eyes. I know it vain but I couldnt help it. Like you say though there are worse things and I gave myself a reality check becuase He wasnt walking till 19 months and the doctors thought he was showing some of the signs of muscular dystrophy, luckily it is not that and he just has hypermobile joints so that made me realise there are worse things. Doesnt stop you feeling a bit sad about it though.
