Subject : Problems after 3rd degree tear

I recently gave birth in December and suffered with a third degree tear. Midwife and GP etc said that I had been stiched up very well and initially felt like i healed quickly. It has now been four months sincE birth and I am still having quite alot of vaginal discharge (yellow in colour). I have had a few intenal exams (GP and physio) which have made me bleed slightly afterwards. Have had swabs done which initially picked up a bit of an infection. Recent swabs came back normal but still have discharge. Dont know what to do next! Has anyone else had this? What could be the cause? It is def not normal discharge. I am still partially breastfeeding and periods are irregular but returning! Would just love to get over this now and feel myself again!

THANKS x

Hello! I had my daughter end of december 2007 so she is 15 months now. Re the discharge, ive not had this really, although i have noticed that i have a lot more discharge than before i had her so could this just be post baby changes?
I also bled for about 1 months after examinations and sex. This doesnt happen now but sex is still uncomfortable for me, not unbearable now though like it used to be.
Next week i am having a "fentons" proceedure to basically re-do it and remove te stitch that didnt disolve and is left causing a lot of pain. No gp picked this up, only my consultant at the appointments i had to have with him. Did you have the scan to check the muscle has healed? Prob too soon, but that will give you an indication of whats happening. Do you have an apt to see your consulatant or his team as theyre the ones to talk to. Good luck!

Hiya

I haven't anything new to add really i just wanted to reply to say you are not alone with problems after a third degree or with lack of follow up care!

I had my lo in June and although day to day everything seems ok (touch wood), I still suffer pain during sex etc... i have seen someone about this and have been referred to a constultant so we'll have to see what they say when my apt finally comes around (apparently when the gp looked she said there was 'extensive scar tissue internally')!!!!!!!

I have had a big fat zilch when it comes to after care! As I was discharged rom hospital I was told I would be invited back after 12 weeks to have everything checked over but this never happened, instead I got a phonecall after about 16-17 weeks asking if i was ok with going to the loo, sex etc!! Any discomfort I mentioned was dismissed as being because it was still early days recovery wise!

I really wish I have been giving something by way of an explanation to recovery times etc as I now know it can take a long time to recover from a third degree but nobody really explained it at the time...

Hope you get sorted out ok....
xx
