Subject : Pros and Cons of different nappies

I wanted to start a thread where we can put down our personal experiences of different nappy types so that new comers can see quickly which nappies might best suit them. I'll start and I'll update with any comments you may have. Please add any comments on any type of reusable nappy you have used. Smile

Bum Genius V3 - pocket nappy
Pros
- Birth to potty
- Quick drying
- Slim fit
- Different colours
- Easy to put on with elastic and velcro attachments
- No outer layer
- Stuffing is folded to fit when nappy is smaller for smaller baby

Cons
- Fiddly to assemble

Pop-in - all in one nappy
Pros
- Birth to potty
- Slim fit
- Different colours
- Easy to put on with elastic and velcro attachments
- No outer layer
- All parts are yellow and therefore BF poos don't stain

Cons
- Inner takes a while to dry

Motherease/Lollipop One-size
Pros
- Birth to potty
- Plastic wrap comes in funky patterns
- Easy to wash and dry

Cons
- Separate outer wrap
- Bulky on small babies

Itti-bitti-ish

Pros
- No outer wrap
- LOvely velvet feel
- Slim fit on small babies
- Come in variety of colours and patterns

Cons
- Sized so need more as baby grows
- Lots of bits that popper together
- Attaches with poppers - not as easy as velcro

Old-style Terry toweling
Pros
- Birth to potty
- Cheapest option
- Quick drying
- Can boil wash if necessary
- "Nappi-nippas" mean no more pins

Cons
- Complicated folding
- Needs outer wrap

Blueberry minky pockets

Cons
- bit bulky on newborns

Tots Bots easy fit bamboo
Pros
- birth to potty
- slim fitting
- comes with additional bamboo insert (that fits nicely in my bluberries to make them a slimmer fit)
- all in one so no need for additional wrap.

Cons
- bamboo fold out insert takes longer to dry

Wonderoos

Pros
- Very soft
- quick drying
- poppered fastening
- good fit on newborns

Cons
- cant think of anything yet!

Tots Bots Nippa Fastening
Pros
- Birth to potty (I have size 2 - size 1 might be better for tiny babies)
- Hardly ever leak (only 2 major leaks in over a year)

- A little bulky but I just bought clothes a size larger when he was small; now it makes no difference

Cons

Motherease Airflow Wrap
Pros
- Popper fastening so little hands can't undo

Starbunz Character wraps
Pros
- Popper fastening
- Super cute - great conversation pieces that have convinced many of my friends to try cloth
- Quick to dry

Cons
- Quite expensive
- Sized so you may need more than one (I bought large size when LO was 8 months old and they were fine)

Mamabless One-Size Hemp Nappies

Pros:
- Popper fastening
- One size, birth to potty training (very flexible, easy to use fitting system)
- Highly absorbant
- Attractive and slim fitting for a reusable

Cons
- Need a wrap
- Probably not the quickest drying (but pretty quick, nonetheless)

Cottontail Wraps

Pros
-Very attractive
- Slim-fitting

Cons
- Too slim fitting for some. My son is already too big for the small size around the leg at six weeks!
- Velcro attachment. Pretty sturdy but does make the top insecure leading to leakage up the back.

Happy Heiny - one size
Pros
- Birth to potty
- No separate wrap
- Lots of different patterns and colours
- Very soft against skin
- Very absorbant
- Dries quickly

Cons
- Pocket nappy - fiddly to stuff

My little girl is only 4 weeks old, so not been using my nappies for ages yet but the ones I'm using are:

- come in poppers or velcro (mine are poppers)
- lovely and soft
- fab colours and patterns
- all in one so no need for additional wrap

Cons
- bit bulky on newborns

Tots Bots easy fit bamboo

- all in one so no need for additional wrap.

Cons
- bamboo fold out insert takes longer to dry

Wonderoos

Pros
- Very soft
- quick drying
- poppered fastening
- good fit on newborns

Cons
- cant think of anything yet!

They are all coping well with explosive breastfed baby poop too,not had any leaks yet....will update again after I've been using them a bit longer!

I am now a convert to Motherease Airflow wraps. Love the flexibility of the poppers and they fit my son beautifully with some room to grow.

This is a great thread as I wish to use re-usable - but it is a complete minefield! My bump isn't due to July 06 - so have some time yet... thought I woulld use disposable initially and the go onto reusable - as I am a first timer at all this!
