Well we have a parrot who is very jealous of my lo. My lo is very wary of the parrot because he screams now and again. We have 2 fish and my lo loves watching them. We're getting a kitten in 4 weeks so that should be interesting.... Surprised

We have two beautiful bengal cats. lo who is 6 months absolutely loves them. He laughs at the sight of them and reaches out to touch them.

They are however not so keen on him!! He tends to grab their tails and not quite be gentle enough with them. They have never tried to hurt him though, they are just wary of him and don't get too close!

Hey,
We have a dog(briard x poodle)9yrs old and a guinea-pig 4 yrs old.
I must admit we have never had any problems with the kids/animals together.
At one point we had 2 dogs, 3 cockatiels, 1 fish, 3 guinea-pigs, 2 lizards(leopard geckos) and 2 hamsters! And we still had no problems.

I do think children and any animals should be kept well apart unless totally supervised, I trust my dog totally BUT I would never leave her in the same room alone with the kids because you just dont know what could set one/other off. My 3 kids have grown up with her as we got her when my ds was 6 months old but still....I wouldnt chance it.

As for the guinea-pig she squeeks at the kids when they go outside cos she knows they will give her some veg but she does nibble fingers so again I am still wary and watch that neither get hurt.

I may be over protective but I love my kids and my animals and would only blame myself if anything happend to either.

We have a Bassett Hound called Howard that is our furry son and now that Poppy has grown up a bit they are really good friends! She hand feeds him biscuits. sits on his bed with him and shouts him in the morning so she can 'kiss' him! It's so very cute and I'm very pleased with how well adjusted the dog has become!
