Subject : third degree tears and toileting?!

Hi

I gave birth to my son son Thursday which left me with third degree tears, i have had internal and external stitches in my bottom, i'm still unable to go to the toilet even though i know i need to go.

Has anyone else had this that could give me some advice?

Thank you

hi , i didnt have 3rd but 2nd degree tears so the stitches were internal but not in my bottom.......i think lots of fibre ( tho not so much it makes you ill) it needs to be soft as possible, also i did get piles ( sorry for tmi) which came up quite quickly after the birth & made it almost impossible to go to the loo & to sit down so it really needs to be soft so that you dont have to strain at all. bran flakes really help me ( my lo is 15wks now & i still have to be carefull to keep the piles away ) ..... also with having a wee i found it was too akward to use a jug in the loo & ended up using the shower with luke warm water this soothed both areas & the stitches( just meant i was always putting bleach down the plug hole & washing the bath ....but needs must)... hope this has helped a little, sorry if not

hiya,

I had a 3rd degree tear with my son, and I was worried about this too!!

Have you got lactulose from the dr?? I got it when I left hospital due to the tear. I still couldnt go after a couple of days, so i took a double dose, and I know this is far too much tmi, i went while in the shower. the lactulose had turned it all soft anyway, and I was so scared of bursting my stiches while straining. It was painless doing it that way, and after that I was fine and went reguarly as normal.

If you dont have lactulose, you can get it on prescription, but if you can't get to the dr, you can buy it over the counter at boots for about £2.50 (I think!).

good luck,

marnie

I had a 3rd degree tear too, but the hospital I went to wouldn't let you out until you had done a poo!!!

Hold some clean tiolet tissue against your stitches as you go, It seems to releave the pressure.

Hi!
Well done on your new baby, sorry to hear about the tear. I had my son 15 months ago, and he gave me a 4th degree tear - I also had to be completely put back together!
You can take Senna (Senna Kot) and Lactulose, and as the other girls have suggestd, high bran stuff. I'm not gonna lie to you, the first number 2 you have will hurt, but you wil stay intact! It might take a while to go though - I remember sitting on the loo for a good 20 minutes! Just be patient with yourself.

Having a bath with salt water in should help the healing process, and wearing Jeans - don't bother fo a while!

It will get easier, I promise. I'm 30 weeks pregnant with a little girl now - so it didn't change my mind on havign another. Though it has meant that I can't have a natural delivery as I've not left enough time to heal.

Take care of yourself and your little bundle.
x
