Hi weve been doing it for just over a week and only had to actually pick him up for 2 days now shush pat is enough and hes a different boy I totally recommend it!
Tips I have is be prepared for it to take a while the first couple of times and when lo cries just keep thinking that you are doing the best for him/her by teaching them how to sleep. It can be upsetting but is totally worth it.
Oh and ive found with Connor is when he arched his back i put him straight down and he went to sleep almost straight away.
Good luck hun and let me know how you get on!

hello we followed this technique with the baby whisperer & are now glad we did! it took around 10 days in total to the point where my lo would settle herself, the 1st time we tried it took us an hour & a half to get her to sleep & we wanted to give up then! xx

Thanks girls, I know my lo is going to play up lots, as she fights her sleep so much anyway. It will be interesting to see how it works as I used CC with my first and hated it!

It's a method from the baby whisperer. It involves putting lo down in cot to sleep and picking them up when they start to cry. You have to then put them back down as soon as they stop crying. It's hard to explain it all as the book is so big, but that is the basic principle.

Well, round 1 took 25mins to get her to sleep, I am sure there will be more challenging times. She slept for 20mins, the book says she should be having 1 and a half hrs and to carry on doing PUPD until the hour and a half is up. The thing is she has woken up happy and playful and I have just left her in her cot. Do I just leave her there until the time is up while she is happy, or should I be patting her or something?

to be honest, once my lo wakes up from a short nap I cant put her back down again so we didnt really push this side of the technique, my lo has 3 naps a day for about 30 mins, I think the book is good but like with most things certain bits wont suit all babies xx

If Connor wakes happy then I get him up even if hes only had a half hour.
Well done for round 1 you did really well, was it awful?

It wasn't too bad actually, I did feel like a yoyo with all the up and down, but managed to settle her with patting in the end. I have a feeling that it will be harder tonight as that is when she doesn't like going in her cot. I let her have a play when she woke up for about 15mins and then got her up. I will just be happier if she sleeps better at night and has short naps in the day.

Let us know how you get on. I'm thinking of doing this with my lo for his night/early morning waking. I don't have the book but I've read loads about it. Need to convince hubby it's a good idea though. S x

Good luck for tonight!
Suz you should try it its a really good method, better than cc because you dont leave baby to cry on his own you show him your there for him if hes upset by picking him up

Well, so far so good, she is doing much better then I thought, but it is only day one. She had an hour and a half nap this afternoon...which never happens. I put her down at 7pm, only had to pick her up about three times and she fell asleep!

I am only on day two and I recommend it. The longest it has taken me to get her to sleep is 40mins so far. She still woke up three times last night, but she was in her cot the whole night, she usually ends up in our bed! We are getting on really well today, only taking about ten mins. I am soooo proud of her, she is not being as difficult as I thought she would. Thanks for the advice! x

Hi all,
We're planning to start PU/PD tonight on lo who is 7 mnths old. At the minute, she is waking up about every 2 hours and I have been giving in & bfeeding her to sleep. We did try PUPD about 3 months ago but think we were holding her for too long & didnt see it through properly.

Anyway, just wondering if those who have had success with it are still finding it useful and any good tips?

Thanks ladies....

Shes not sleeping through the ngiht, still working on the 3am wake uop. But as a result of pupd, my sleeps for 40mins in am and 2-3hrs pm. I also can get her to sleep in teh eve.

Be persistant. At first I was in her room for an hr doing pupd even though she only slept for 20mins.
I personalyl find that I ahve to pyut ehr to bed. As oh cant seem to understnad how to do pupd and lo just ends up falling asleep on him on our bed!

regarding teh bf. I did that too and found she wasnt having a proper drink and didnt need the milk. I was giving ehr dream feed and one early hrs morning. I ahve dropped the early hrs morning and lo now 9mths. When she wakes up, pupd and dont offer the milk.

At first you maybe there for 40mins and I was getting frustrated once I admit. Just remind yourself that youa re doing this so you both get a good nigths sleep. Its nice now to have time with hubby alone in evenings. Also to get a 5hr sleep before being awake again!

All the best. Ask questions on here if you need advice/stuck. xxx

Thanks Joey,
Sounds like you've have some success - would love to have evenings again!

Well, we did it last night - I'm only using it for the night time to start with (will tackle the daytime naps later).

I put her down at 7.30 last night & took 15 mins to fall asleep. She woke at 8.30 & 00.30 and both times took about 15 mins to fall asleep. She then woke at 03.00 and took 45 mins to fall asleep (this was very hard).

But, stayed in her cot the whole night (she's ended up in our bed at some point each night for the last few months) and didn't feed her and she slept for longer stretches than usual. She was hungry for milk when she woke as well (usually isnt as she's fed so much in the night!).

However, one problem...
1. When I picked her up, she didn't really settle but was arching her back so I put her down but she continued to scream - didn't feel like the picking up was helping her much and in fact, sometimes made the screaming worse.

Thanks,
Lisa x
