Make sure you have your activation pin. This takes a couple of days to come through the post.

See hmrc.gov.uk - self assessment- register for self assessment.

There is also a demo on there to which might be helpful that shows you what the pages look like and what you'll need handy when you fill the forms in.

I'm doing this for the first time too - have received my activation pin this morning. As this is for 2007/2008 I am hoping it wont be too bad as I even though I registered myself as self-employed in March '07 I didn't actually earn any money until July '08 which will be in next yrs return and hopefully this year I might even make a profit!!!

I've just finished doing mine, so much to think about!!! But does seem quite easy. I've made a loss !!!!! yikes! Mainly due to forking out for things in our first month of business - only started on 11 March 08, was silly really looking at my expenses I went crazy buying stationary etc, very silly! What do you do? I sell Aloe Vera health, wellbeing and beauty products. Although havent really been concentrating on it as much as I should have.
