Subject : Totally off subject.... but still preg related lol.....

I am wondering if there is anyone out there who can give me advice on my dog lol...

She is a 2 year old Westie and we bred her 6 weeks ago 2day. We took her to vet 2 weeks ago but she said she couldnt feel anything and that she didnt think she was preg Sad

I was so upset for her as we took her through to the stud dog 3 times and it wasnt very nice for her to say the least :\(
Also, it was a £250 stud fee, 3 days in a row travelling ( 2 hours there and 2 hours back) and £60 petrol money.

But were not convinced the vet was right... Kelsie has still been sick most days (yellow bile), hungrier, sleeps all day (shes very lethargic), swollen teets, kicks her back legs when shes sleeping like something is annoying her, hides toys and food, and her tummy seems alot more swollen Confused

She has had 2 phantom pregnancies in the past but this seems different. A lady i know breeds cats and she was round last week and felt her tummy and she is convinced she felt something, but i dont know what im looking for. Kelsie usually lets us touch her tummy no probs, but the past few weeks she wriggles away when we rub her tummy and then licks her bits which are still swollen.
I know this is a human pregnancy forum hee hee, but if theres anyone with doggie pregnancy advice, id really appreciate it Happy

Love Sharon and Kelsie
xx

if i were you i'd take her back to the vets!! maybe it was to early before to feel any thing! but if she isn't pregnant then you should get her checked because of horrible infections they can develope after a season!! my old border collie had an infection they can be nasty! i hope its just puppies giving her grief!! xxxxx

hi

she is definately showing signs of pregnancy, and i do hope after all ur effort she is expecting especially as it isn't particularly a nice experience for them, particularly when they are tied together after. my sister is a registered husky breeder and one of her bitches is going thru a phantom pregnancy at the moment (at least we think its phantom as again like u, the vet cldn't feel anything).

i wld say probably best to go back and check with the vets again, as it does depend on how many she is carrying as to how early they can feel them, if she's only got one or two in there it wld be harder to feel for than if she's carrying 8.

lol, failing that, u cld try a hpt lmao hehehe
hope this helps

Hiya - can i ask how old your dog is out of interest? also, it certainly sounds like she is pregnant. I would wait for her to relax fully on her side whilst you stroke her and (like you would yourself) place you hand on her lower abdomen and wait for movment. Also, in about a week you can perhaps see if she is producing milk. Animals tend to have an increased thirst as well with pregnancy and maybe a relunctance to jump up as they feel heavier. Obviuosly you will notice if she gets paunchy but if she only has one or two then you may not tell from the look of her so its a good idea when breeding to weigh the animal at weekly intervals and that will also indicate pregnancy. I would expect her to be a 1-3 pounds heavier between week 6 - week 9.
If pups are not produced by say 66 days of last mating but still showing signs then she may well be having a phantom pregnancy 0 these can be very prolonged and require some treatment i understand!
I really hope you have puppies soon!!
I have never bred dogs but my parents used to own a pet shop and i used to breed rabbits, guinea pigs, rats etc for the shop and alot of the same things apply to animals! I had to do some animals qualifications to hold the licence to breed animals. Let us know if you feel movement - there should certainly be some small movement by now but certainly by weeks 8 you may see tummy moving. Unless there is only 1 - and then you will get a surprise when it arrives!!! xxx

Hi Em

Thanks for all your info Happy

She is 2 yrs old and a very small westie, was told that she may only have 2 or 3 anyway so they might just be hiding away in there, tucked up comfy.

I will try feel her tonight again, but she tries to get away from me lol

hi hun, hope you find out what is the matter with her. hopefully she is pregnant! i know what you mean about paying a vets bill and they only look at your dog for a few minutes. i was going to say phantom pregnancy but you reckon this is different to the ones she has had in the past. let me know how you get on. xxx
