Hi
I took approx 9/ 10 mths to heal but wouldn't say was 100% and not likley to be so again! I am expecting my second and have arranged with my consultant to have a growth scan at 36 weeks if the baby is likely to be big again I'm opting for a c-section. Good luck I hope it gets better - if not go back and see your doctor again you don't have to live witht he discomfort!

Hello!
I had a 3rd degree tear with my son a year ago. I too was in theatre for 45 mins being stitched! However, I was very lucky as the stiches healed really quickly.
I still find it a little uncomfortable sometimes when having sex.
My main problem is that my bottom isn't what it was! I've never had any major problems, but I find if I exhert too much energy, sometimes I pass wind!! (sorry if TMI!).
I am now 21 weeks pregnant, and I really hope for a natural birth. I suppose the good thing was that my labour last year was quick (8hrs) and I didn't need assistance. My tear happened because Josh's heartbeat severely dropped, I pushed and the midwife pulled - I wouldn't have normally minded but the gas and air had worn off already!!
I see my specialist next week to discuss my labour options for April!
Maybe you should see if you can get an appointment with your Gynae again?
xx

Hi i had a 3 degree tear with my dd and have just given birth naturally to my son, i did have to have an epitosmy(?) to reduce to risk of tearing again and it worked healed really well. Make sure you discuss it over with a consultant and if your still having pain get them to check you out as the stiching up might not have quite right. I was given the option of c section but declined as i have a toddler at home luckily for me everything was fine.
Good luck ladies

Disscuss this with your midwife and get her to check you internally or get the doctor to do so you may have been stiched incorrectly this could be rectifyed easily but you need to speak up. I still had leakage problems 21/2 yrs after my 3 degree tear and spoke to mw about it i was referred to a specialist straight away.

If i were you if the pain is bad then i'd go to your gp and get referred back to see a consultant because even though your external stitches have healed well i guess its possible there could have been problem with the internal ones healing, as a 3rd degree tear has to be repaired in layers. Saying that, my son is now 16 months and i get some discomfort with my tear from time to time and sex can be painful but not all the time and not agony either. Maybe give it another month or two but i dont see the harm in getting referred back because if you do need re-stitching or anything then the sooner it is done the better. It might just be that yours is taking a bit longer to heal. I dont think mine will ever be right but if it causing you this much pain after 8months then you should least see someone about it x

I would go back to your gp, i had a 3rd degree tear 8years ago, and we have finally conceived afer 2years of trying due to being on the depo injection , i get really panicky as my first son was big, 9lb 4oz so doctor said there is no reason for a perfectly normal birth the second time, it took me about 4 months to recover, and alot of stitches and i am nervous of this happening to me again, but i delt with it the first time and i will agin, ill try some old wife tales to make sure the next ones not to big, as im only small (well was a size 8 now 10) but they reckon as i was only 18 and small this is why it happened to me. i hope all works out for you
