I had that .. for about 3 weeks ...... they couldn't find out what it was, even went to hosp. Could be muscle strain, trapped wind, indigestion ... ligaments ....

Do call your midwife for advice though.

i've had a pain like this since about 28 weeks, it can get excruciating! i can only ease it by lying down. i asked mw about it and she said it is "rib flare" caused when the ribs have to open up to accomodate baby and the muscle in between the bottom 2 floating ribs gets strained. does that sound the same as yours? mine is definitely down between the last 2 ribs and goes all round the back too.
hth, naomi

Naomi, I get this too but like you loopy_loo only on one side - thanks for posting that as I've been wondering what it could be and I'm sure it must be what you describe. It's a very distinctive feeling - although I usually get mine when I lie on my side.

Prior to it being painful it was just sort of numb - it only got painful at around 30 weeks.

38 weeks today Happy

I had really bad rib pain from about 20 weeks onwarsds, couldnt lie on either side so was really struggling to sleep, told the midwife on numerous occasions and she wasnt really very useful, she just said it was the baby kicking and bruising my ribs, eventaally it eased off about 30 weeks when the baby must have moved now her head is down i dont get it as often and i can eventually sleep well at night! x
