Subject : Anyone else engaged!!

Saw midwife today and i knew my baby had dropped at the weekend some more. In fact i swear it would have dropped out if i hadn't have been lying down and asleep so it woke me up. Anyway it now catches the odd groinal nerve and today the sciatic nerve same as last baby did too funnily enough. Sure enough even though i am only 34 weeks baby head has engaged 3/5th left to go so it knows which way its headed.
I thought that 2nd pregnancy and more the baby often left this part till around due date often just dropping at last minute actually i labour. Anyone else know more about engagement!!!
Am i in for an early appearance. I would like it before xmas week but abit busy this week to fit it in lol. I will obviously have to go with the flow if something happens.

Hi there..i'm almost there. At my 35 + 1 week appoint last week i was 2 /5th engaged. This is my first baby.

I'm actually hoping its not a sign of being early. To be honest i don't feel like i've dropped any or was none the wiser that baby was engaged.

Sorry if this is TMI but over the last month i occasionally got the feeling that i've had huge amount of discharge,...when i looked.. nothing but it felt if that something was coming out. Guess that was the baby's head becoming engaged! :)

Silly question but can they become unengaged or once they are that engaged they just become more so?

I saw my midwife today too and she said baby is 2/5 engaged, which means 3/5 of the head is in the pelvis. So my baby is nearly ready to go, too!

Sorry to disappoint but she did tell me not to get my hopes up - baby can be 1/5 engaged (ie as engaged as possible) but still stay that way for ages without making an appearance. Boooooo.

At least our babies are heading in the right direction though, Hannah!

yes they can disengage! mine did last time was floating free again at 38 weeks grr BUT he was born a few days later so he engaged during labour prob. im not overly concerned with it this time. i thought maybe he/she was engaged a little by now as i struggle to walk and it hurts down there when baby moves - but no ff again! x

yes i did abit more research and they can become floating free again. still gives a nice heavy feeling on the bladder for us all. They expect a first baby to become engaged a few weeks before i think that is partly for the midwifes peace of mind that it is going good. I dont think it is a sign of early labour but surely the lower it gets must put pressure on the cervix to release some hormones!! You guys will all probably have babys before me so good luck and heres to the new year. xxx

My baby bell has had her head down from about week 28 but still not engaged, im not too worried tho one of my friends babies had their head engaged for 3 weeks and she still had to be induced and my other friend was told her babies head was not engaged and went into labour later on that day! x

My little one has also been head down since around 26-28 weeks but not as yet engaged!
Midwife said it can go in and out easily for a first and it wasn't a sign that things were coming to an end either!
I thought baby had dropped inlast week or so and I've just had 5 hours walking round the metrocentre and it felt like I was waddling all over the place!
Bit early to make an appearance but hopeful for a start of December baby rather than end of one!!

I feel much better knowing that being enagaged doesn't mean early labour. I know i keep telling you all that i want baby alittle overdue which i do but i'll probably end up whinging if its more than 10 days over :)

Got MW app next week and i'll be 37 + 1 so will be interesting to see what baby has been up to!

i agree alot can change within a short space of time and certainly if a baby decideds its coming there aint no stopping it. I dont particulary want to go over anyway getting fed up of being pg now as i have loads of extra nasty sickness etc with this one i never had with first. So it is taking its toll. Ready to enjoy xmas really and the new family addition. XXX
