Hi all

I'm new here so hello, I'm Sophie and I have a little boy, Isaac who is 3 in December and one due in March. I've been trawling the internet trying to find some advice and wondering if any of you can help!

Isaac is generally a very good boy but seems to have just started the terrible twos. Sadly, he's picked up the f word from somewhere (certainly wasn't me but I struggle with my friends who are not parents yet) and when he's angry he shouts "f-ing boys". Though completely out of context it's worrying to think where it's come from. It's only been 3 times in the last couple of weeks so far. His language is very good and he can string lots of sentences together. The problem is how do I deal with it? Some people on the internet says ignore it and others say tell him it's not acceptable and he's not to say bad words. I'm inclined to ignore as I don't want to make a big deal out of it and hope it'll pass. I'm going down to my family for Christmas and will be so ashamed if he says it there. What would you do?!

Sophie

Swearing!!!

My little boy who is 2.5 has said it twice and we have ignored it on both occasions! It is really difficult to know what to do when they say it,but unfortunately they do not understand what it means and are simply copying what they have heard! Good luck anyway!

Yeah we have had that a couple of times too but with the word bugger after i accidentally said it when i dropped soemthing. he went round happily repeating it and i told him he shouldnt say it but hes since forgotten it. I think with 2 and 3 year olds they pick up on so many new words every day that the old ones get forgotten very easily. Id try the telling him that thats a naughty word that he shouldnt say and leaving it at that, but only tell him it if he says it again which he probably wont! Fingers crossed for you xx

hi when my daughter was 3 she is now 4 she came out with the f word a few times, and used it in the proper context telling me ffs mummy i'm freezing close the f****ing door, i really had to stop myself laughing, wrong i know, but i chose to ignore it that time and the next time she said it i told her it was a very naughty word and santa would be cross if she ever said it again. Thankfully she hasn't said it again.
