Subject : can't have VBAC, very disappointed.

Hi all

After seeing my consultant today they have said that baby is too big to fit in my pelvis and won't come naturally so I have to have another c-section. I'm booked in for monday. I'm soooo scared! My memories of my first section were terrible, the pain after and it took me 2 months to heal and get back to normal! Is it better second time round or worse from your experiences? I'm really gutted only have 5 months maternioty leave left and really don't want to spend half of it recovering from the op. I really want as much quality time with baby as I can get!

Another complication is that I've had a back operation meaning I may not be able to have a spinal. I am hoping for this option as I'm convienced the reason for my bad experience last time was because I was under GA. I just remember waking up and being in so much pain I really wasn't interested in the baby (my daughter now 6). Is it the same when the pain killers wear off from spinal?

Sorry if waffling just so worried really was hoping to avoid all these fears! Any reassurance greatly received!! LOL!

Oh Dawn- I can't speak from experience but I'm sure the fact that it is a planned section will mean much more time to prepare you and find a way of keeping epidural/ spinal option instead of a GA. Make the most of any offers of help and by getting a bit of rest each day you'll recover just fine, my cousin was lifting her toddler within a week of her section.
Good Luck honey xxxx:\)

Hon, i have only had one-my daughter was delivered under spinal block and i can honestly say i had a fab recovery(she was also too big for me and got jammed),i had no pain after my emergency section at all and was out doing my shopping 2 days later.

Has your consultant said for definant you cant have a spinal or an epi?
Was your first planned or emergency? maybe cause this one is planned things will b better for you.
And if you really really want to try a VBAC, he cant refuse, i know they say baby is too big for you but tbh they cant tell for sure.
Why have they left you so late as u are now over due?
surely they shuld of sectioned you(if they wernt going to recommend VBAC) 1 week ago?
Sorry i am not much help, didnt want to r&r, i also didnt want to know my dd after my section but i think that was due to blood loss and still being paralisedxxxx

Hi

No it's not def that I can't have a spinal or epi just there is a chance it won't work because of my previous scar tissue from my back op blocking the way. My first was a planned section and I'm really annoyed they left me so long this time. Can't help but feel I might of had more options if I'd been seen at 38 weeks by the consultant and maybe could of had a VBAC. To be honest I'm in so much pain daily now that I'll be pleased to meet my baby monday and have a date and can start my recovery! It's really reassuring to hear that you didn't have any pain and were shopping 2 days later. Here's hoping the same for me!

Thanks for your messages too Camlo it's reassuring to hear that your cousin was lifting her toddler a week later. I'm hoping I'm remembering it wrong from first time round. Starting to get my head round the idea a bit better now.

xx

i did take a while to recover last time but was up and walking into town for remembrance 10 days later. did regret it after as was bit sore but felt more human again. painkillers make all the difference.
they say 2nd time round is normally better as you know what to expect and what you can and cant do without causing pain etc.
Take care hun

Hi

I had first section under GA n second emergency section under spinal. Ive got a simiIliar problem with back, with first they cldnt get epi to work and then baby nearly died hence GA. so when 2nd labour started to look like it wasnt going well they put epi in early, it failed they tried again, it failed then finally had spinal that worked.

Basically really didnt want a GA so made them keep trying and really pleased i did, i dont know if this will apply to you but its def worth saying your preferences. it was a much better experience than first section tho gutted not to have vbac.

For two weeks I was sore but my twins were only 17 months so was doing more than i should. i got doc to give me more voltarol as hosp were tight and only gave me 2 days supply.

Good luck with it xxDBxx
