Subject : Help! Baby temper...

Hi Ladies,
I really need your advice on this one - For the past 2 weeks or so Tahlia has been doing something really strange!

She wacks the side of her head with her hand, making a fist quite hard to the point where most of the time I have to stop her as I am sure she must be hurting herself. Is this normal behaviour?
I'm really concerned about this.

Also the other thing is she grabs my hand and digs her nails really hard into my hand leaving fingernail marks. Now if I move my hand away she screams at me until I give it back and she can do it again.
Of course, how do you explain to a 1 year old they are hurting you??
I have even tried the shock tatic and done it back to her this morning. She just screamed at me and wanted to carry on hurting me.
It didn't work, only left me feeling really guilty all day!!

I remember when my eldest son used to bite and my Health Visitor said to cure the problem do it back, the shock should curb the problem. It worked then, so I was working on that theory.

I'm really lost out here as I've no-one to ask.....Please help I'm at my wits end with this one...
Although we trim her nails very often, it still happens.
I even mentioned it to Tahlia's Nanny today who looks after her all day if she does it to her and she said yes. I explained that we need to stop this.

One other thing is Tahlia throws things at my face if she is in ed with us in the morning.
The other day she really hurt me when she threw her dummy, a cardboard book and her baby bottle at me. I now have a bruised nose abit....

Any suggestions to help me......Sarah xxx

Not sure this is quite so uncommon Sazzy. Sky does it too but more pulling hair and pinching. She is also suddenly fascinated with my boobs all of a sudden (she's been bottle fed since 6 weeks) and every morning in bed tries to pinch them! She also has got the habit of whacking things and throwing things at my face but I thought it was just a phase so I'm not too worried - I think they are just testing our reactions!

It not that uncommon hun. Freya bites and does the whole finger nail thing. If she is doing it out of a temper tantrum I tell her once 'No! it hurts, do it again and I'll move you'. This usually doesn't work so I sit her (she hates sitting, rather be on her knees) in the middle of the room so she has to move to get anything or to anyone and leave her to cry it out and ignore it. She will then come and find me between 1-5 mins later almost to say sorry and its all over with. I have to say If she is having a real screaming match the 1-5 mins can feel the longest ever. I have needed to do any of it back to her but I would if I ever felt the need.

Kerry, Freya (1yrs) and Bumps (14ish weeks)

Don't mean to be rude, but THANK GOD!!! I'm so glad it's not just me!! Jack hits the side of his head with everything-his fist, bottle, toys, anything he happens to be holding at the time. HV said it's normal, and personally I think it's to do with his back teeth coming through! He also headbutts me, pulls my hair, scratches my arms etc. He also strokes my breasts, and pinches the nipple! Think it's just because he can get hold of it that he does lol! I think the hair pulling is a sign of affection, because he only does it when I give him his bedtime bottle lol x
