Subject : which formula to use for the twins

I had been expressing my milk but eventually gave up due to having mastitis twice. My breast milk runs out shortly and we are not sure which is the best formla to use. Boys were born at 31 weeks and are doing really well, now wight 5lb7 and 5lb2, they are coming home on Sunday. Both feeding really well about 100ml every 4 hours. Not sure which would be the best formula to use. Been told we need to use cartons first as they are more sterile than powder formula? Cartons cost so much more than the powder, was anyone else told this? Any advice appreciated.

Sorry I can't be of much help as Kara was put on prescription milk due to being small and low birthweigh. I never breastfed Kara so I am not sure the way you would move on. I would ask the SCBU unit to see what they recommend as some may be too heavy for small babies.

Our twins were born 4 weeks premature and we used farleys milk which was given to us by the hospital.
it changed its name whilst we were still in the hospital to Heinz Nurture.
We were using that until today, the boys are now 12 weeks.
There feeds have dropped right off from having 6 and 7 each feed to sometimes 3 or 4 a feed.
We tried them on Aptamil this evening and they seemed to have liked it.
Aptamil seems to be thinner

hope that helps

Hi
sounds like your twins are doing really well. Amelia was 5 weeks early and weighed 5lbs 7oz..

I BF and still do (easier with one..) but I always go to Aptamil once I stop feeding. I have always been told it is closest to breast milk.

Good Luck

Hi
We get nutriprem 2 powder on prescription (catch-up formula). However, when we were on SCBU most of the nurses there recommended apatamil as the best for premature babies (in their opinion).

When my girl was born at 33 weeks. She was not feeding well. So after feeding we topped her up with formula. And hospital recommended Aptimal. It is the closest thing to breastmilk apparently.

It worked pretty well for my gorgeous girl who is picking up weight and looking very well now. Hope this helps
