Subject : In pain please help...
Hello
I am finally moving from the pregnancy forum to the birth one. Scarlett was born 10 days ago by c section after failed induction weighing 9 pounds 13. I really would appriciate some advice. During the pregnancy I experienced various aches and pains but I had one under the right hand side of my ribs which was the worse. It went right through to the back and it was painful to sit, stand etc. I ended up going to the dcs who said it was nothing, did the normail checks i.e. urine, blood pressure etc and all came back fine.
Since having the baby the pain has come back with vengence and I am coping only with good painkillers. Today, last check with mw she said I was going to have to come off them, which fills me with dread. I find it hard to stand straight and it hurts when I breath in, cough etc.
Anyone else had this? The mw said it could be everything going back to normal and if it persists to go to the Drs.
Help....

sounds to me like a strained muscle round ur ribs. My OH had this and was in agony for weeks! Co-codamol was the only thing that took the pain away. Go to ur docs.
Congratulations on having Scarlett babe xx xx

Hey hun,
Congrats on your little girl love the name and I have seen the pics on fb, she is beautiful well done you!
I have this now and again too, my problem is trapped wind and it gets under my ribs and makes me double over in pain when it gets really bad (luckily this has only been a few times) My friend also had a section and suffered from it too but really bad, she was on painkillers and advised to have hot baths.
Hope it gets better and rest up you need it after a section, message me on facebook if you want to ask me anything.
Amy n Amber xxx

I think it sounds like some sort of pulled muscle too. You dont have to come off painkillers just because she says so. You can buy co-codamol 8/500s over the counter but if the pain is really bad you'll need to get more stronger ones from the doc on prescription. I had quite a bit of trouble with my lower back during and after my 2nd pregnancy and used those stick on heat patch things which i found quite helpful. If it doesnt ease off in a week or so see your g.p again and ask either to be referred to a physio to see if they can help at all. Recovering from a section is bad enough without any extra pain. Congrats btw x

Also you can take ibuprofen or another anti-inflammatory at the same time as paracetamol or co-codamol, you may have had these, probably Diclofenac, after your section, but you can buy regular ibuprofen over the counter and they can be taken alongside co-codamol or paracetamol

the girls have said that it could be pretty much trapped wind, muscle pain, etc, but the other thing to consider is gall stones? these buggers can cause a hell of a lot of grief, and the others should have pretty much been dispelled by now..
emmalou's pain relief suggestions are good, tho' you could go back to your GP for another check, but also get a prescription for your pain relief - it's free!!

hi i had this too a couple years ago (altho not in pregnancy)...
the way you describe being sore when standing straigth is the same.
at first they thought i had helicobactor which is a stomach thing, but then they put it down to a chest infection..altho i didnt have a cough or anything...tbh i dont think they knew what it was..but i co-codamol and it was away within about a week.
co-codamol knocked me out tho and i couldnt go to work or even look after my wee girl i just slept!! i could take them every 4 hours but by the time it was about an hour to go til i could have more i was in agony again, and was scared to move!
all i can say is go to your gp, sorry not much help there x
