Subject : Aquanatal classes..

Hiya

Does anyone go to aquanatal classes? Ive heard it is good for when you have SPD, good excercise and baby loves it, so quite interested in starting them.
What u think?

I go every monday morning. My midwife recommended it to me when I was about 22 weeks as I was getting really bad back ache and hip pain. I suffer with SPD too and I find being in the water really helps. I'd definitely recommend going, although make sure your instructor is aware of your SPD as there are some things you won't be able to do.

I've met some lovely ladies that I'll be in touch with once our lo's are here.

You'll love it, go for it!

I go too!! We have to be 28 wks though to take part and it's a 6 wk course, I'm due to finish this week at 37 wks. Like Tequila I've met some lovely girls who are due around my date and I hope to be able to keep in touch with them. I have some symptoms of SPD and being in the water does help, but be careful as you don't realise how much exercise your doing - the day after my first session I could barely walk Surprised

Enjoy!! x

I also go to aquanatal at my local leisure centre. Anyone can attend from early pregnancy through to up to six or so months after birth - we always seem to have a little row of infants in their car seats along the side of the pool. Very cute, although they usually go to sleep. Razz

I don't have SPD, but our instructor is very good about pointing out which exercises those in early pregnancy etc. should either do gently or sit out. And it is an excellent work out. I'm going to miss it when I am away next week.

Hi ,

Am I right in thinking you are in East Lothian? If so Musselburgh Sports centre on a tuesday night at 7pm. It is run by midwives I found it good but too much for me now at 37 weeks!

If I'm wrong and you're not in East Lothian please ignore my pregnancy brain

Gail :-)

It's classed as antentatal care (well it is for me) so work should let you attend

i have been going since i was 15 weeks along and i love them. Used to go to aerobics before so needed the exercise. i like feeling weightless for a while and the groans are evident as we all vacate the pool.
i have been told by instructor that i shouldnt do deep squats and also as we go along if theres anything we shouldnt do.
Our instructor is a mw and pushes us hard so no slacking just cos we are pg! lol

How much is everyone paying for classes?
I hope no one minds me asking, but I phoned the only pool near me that offer Aquanatal a few weeks ago and they charge £7 for a 45min session which seemed really expensive to me!!!

That does seem expensive, although saying that mine were £5 for 30 minutes. I didnt really like my classes. The instructor was not a midwife and some of the exercises were a little painful on the hips (I used to teach aqua, but im not pregnancy trained), she also did cool down stretches in the pool, which I know shouldnt be done normally let alone whilst pregnant xxxx

Hi Sharon,

How much are the classes at Musselburgh? I thought about going a while back when the midwife mentioned it to me but it's a bit of a hastle having to bus it there & back, plus I don't think I'd look a very pretty sight in a swimming costume just now LOL! Might think about it again though xxx

Mine are £2.30 for an hr and if you keep the ticket you redeem it afterwards for a drink.... they also reserve tables in the cafe so you can get to know the others and the mw hangs around if anyone needs to ask any questions. I really enjoy mine, will miss it Sad

well if we all go to musselburgh together then we can all be as paranoid about are bodies together. so then we wont feel as bad what with all of us being the same...warped logic i know but it might work,

mrs t where are you as that sounds fantastic :)

I have been going to aquanatal classes since around the 20 week mark. The instructor is a mw and is really nice and you can ask her any questions too which is great. The one I have been going to is £4.40 for 45 minutes aqua and then there is a relaxation class for another 45 minutes afterwards, but I only went once or twice to that as it made me want to sleep which isn't good when you have to try and drive home.
