Subject : question about fitting stairgates
How do you fix a stairgate between a wall and the bannister (which is circular and not square just to be more awkward) as most of them are advertised showing them between 2 walls?
Do you have to get a special kit separately to ensure they stay on and which ones are best - permanent fix ones or the pressure fit? i have read on the internet you should not use pressure fit gates at the top of stairs cos they can come loose.
We need to get some asap as lo now getting quicker at crawling & starting to "explore" more! But I'm baffled at all the different kinds so need some help!

hi hun,
I am not sure you will be able to fit it to round banisters (wouldn't swear to it, but having tried ours out, i just can't imagine how you would do it?!)
i guess the only thing you can do is look at the manufactuers website and see what they say?
There are some types (like the lindam extending one) that are better for doorways and some better for stairs (like lindam easy fit plus)
sorry prob no help at all!!

I should imagine most gates are not suitable for a round bannister - but it's worth checking with the manufactuer's. I decided to fit gates in the doorways anyway so Lily is confined to exploring just the lounge or her bedroom and gets no where near the stairs.

You can use them on round banisters but you have to attach a piece of wood to your banister so that you can put the pressure side of the gate onto that . My friend had to do that with hers. My banister is also round and will probably have to do the same but I put mine up last week to test it and when I just put the pressure against it and tightened it I found that it was tight enough and sturdy. The woman is toys r us told me that with the pressure gates and round banisters a lot of people have to screw a piece of wood to the banister first. Not very nice on the eye but I suppose its worth it for safety.

Thanks for the replies.
Our neighbours have stairgates as got 2 lo's so we'll ask them how they fit them as we live on a new estate so they will most probably have stairs similar to ours.
This problem must crop up all the time so there must be a solution........??
