Subject : Labour and Delivery class!! went yesterday...

hey girlies, just thought id let you know how my first antenatal class went, i went to Labour and Delivery, it was really informative and went on for 2 and half hours, we first separated into 2 groups women and men, and we all brainstormed what we want to know regarding labour and delivery, lets just say the mens sheet for far more humerous and there wasnt half as many questions! anyway, she answered all our fears / worries, she talked us through the whole process, with dolls and fake pelvises!!

just when i thought it was goin well, she put on a video, of a woman through the whole stages of labour and birth... oh my good god its a good job i was sitting down lets put it that way!! it was a really old fashioned video, and ive seen programmes of ladies giving birth but this was somthin else!! it was zoomed that far in that the babies head and ladies "foof" was the full size of the screen, why oh why wud they do that?? no1 wud see it like that unless they literally had their head down there and got that close! it was the worst 20 mins ive ever had i couldnt even watch the rest, once the babies head came out, and lots of fluid came gushing out my legs went funny and i nearly blacked out, u cud see she had teared aswell but at zoomed in it was the most horrific thing i have ever seen, and now i am absolutely petrified, and wished id never gone, its completely traumatised me and i spent all last night in tears!! i think they shud show that to teenagers to stop them getting pregnant, not to 24 year old women who are 32 weeks!

i really was trying to bot even think about it and had the attitude that il be ok when the time comes, but now i know what that end will look like, the picture doesnt leave my mind! : ( its psycologically playing on my mind so much xxx

Hey pinklady!

Your class sounds much like the NHS one I just had on Tuesday!

We had dolls and fake pelvises too that they kept demonstrating the wrong and right way for baby to present into. We had to sit through a breatsfeeding dvd - and why is it that 25-30 year old men still can't help but snigger when load of boobies are on the screen, do they ever grow up??!!

The birth dvd we watched sounds exactly the same as yours, maybe it's the same one? It was quite old and it was very close up of the head emerging, with lots of gushing of fluid/blood and tearing, argghh!! The lady had had an epidural and I thought the baby looked quite big, only to be told by the mw that it only weighed around 7.5lbs!! Thought it looked like a 9-10lber to me, so that scared me too LOL!!

We only get one session on the NHS so I'm quite glad we're doing the NCT ones too. I need to learn some breathing techniques for early labour, and that hubby of mine needs to learn massage at the very least!! He was horrified when he found out that labour lasted so long, he had no idea it could be 12 hours of proper contractions before the real pushing starts! I think he'd better do some gemming up before B Day gets any closer! WhateeeEver!

Iz x
