Hi Ceril, I gave birth to my son Ashton 15 weeks ago and over the last couple of weeks my hair has started coming out everytime I wash or brush it. I mean loads is coming out!!! I normally wash it everyday as it also gets greasy if I don't.
Is there any way I can minimise this and how long does it normally last?
Thanks Tammi

Hi Tammi. Congratulations on Ashton! Most new mums may experience similar problems of hairloss post-pregnancy. This is due to hormonal changes. There are a number of things you can do to help. First a balanced diet is very important - particularly oily fish and green vegetables and fruit. There are also a number of products on the market that can more directly target your hair issue. I know Schwarzkopf has a new hair retention care system called Activ F designed specifically for women to help with this type of problem and is available in Boots. This is an easy to use shampoo and tonic that you can use alongside your normal hair care products. Hope this helps you x

Hi Ceril,
I had my baby six months ago and now feel ready to get myself back in shape again. I'm a bit overweight and generally flabby - what's the best sort of exercise I could do? And it has to fit in with baby too!
Thanks.

Hi Ceril

I'm not a mummy yet, but all being well i'll have my first baby in May-June 2009. So excited!!

Just worrying a bit about stretch marks - when should i start using creams / oils and what happens to my skin after birth? What would you recommend? Or is it still too early to think about this?

Thank you

Hi Flamenca. The perfect way to exercise with your baby is to take him/her for a brisk daily walk for a minimum of half an hour. This will give you and your baby some fresh air and break from your daily routine. If you really don't have the time for this half hour then try to walk rather than drive or take public transport for any errands. Even short walks will make a difference. If you still feel unhappy with your post-pregnancy body there are lots of underwear solutions that you can temporarily try that will streamline you. Check out redcarpetundies.com. You might also like to try your local community centre which could have mother and baby exercise or yoga classes x

Hi Ceril I've got a two month old baby and I'm really struggling to make some time for me each day. I sometimes look in the mirror at lunchtime and realise I haven't even had time to brush my hair or clean my teeth. Is this normal, and how can I get back into a routine that lets me look after me? Thanx

hi Inna
It is never too early to start a daily beauty skin care regime. Its not just about being pregnant but about the regular care of your skin. The best skincare doesnt have to cost a lot. Personally Iove Palmers cocoa butter. The smell is fab. One of the most effective oils is a Vitamin E oil. Another great choice is Rosa Mosqueta oil that is really good for scars and stretch marks. Be very careful with Essential oils as many should not be used during pregnancy. Do check with your Dr or pharmacist.

thank you, Ceril. I will be checking labels to see if they are suitable to use during pregnancy.

some of my friends used Virgin Olive oil from supermarkets - is this also a good solution?

thank you again,

Inna

Hi
in regards to your question about your greasy hair and how it was never like this pre pregnancy. most new mums all have hair issues as the hormonal changes will affect the condition of your hair especially. Washing your hair more frequently with a gentle daily shampoo should help. x

Hi Charlie, and all other mums with this question...
re your "tummy" issues. Firstly your husband/partner will love you for you (that is the whole of you) imperfections and all. he wont see just your tum, or stretch marks or any of those bits that YOU only see when you look in the mirror.when you need to undress keep some of your undies on then you can hide the bits that you wish to hide... just make sure that those undies fit you well and are sexy!
posture is very important and will help get those tummy muscles going again. Dont slump (i know its difficult when youre tired) especially when you are sitting down. x

Hi Ali
Time is always an issue for all mums, new and old! It is so important to find "you" time even if it is just 20 minutes a day. It will be beneficial to your baby and your own sanity. Do you have any family who might be able to come and relieve you at all? if not when your baby is having his nap, use that time to do something for you. There are many new products on the market that are all in ones/multi purpose so you could for example, shower, exfoliate and moisturise in one step whilst in the shower. Good luck! x

Hi Inna again
Olive oil will work fine too, but with so many lovely smelling products on the market you may wish to try other things. Its really all down to personal preference and what works for you as long as you moisturise regularly.

I think that all new mums have this huge pressure to look good and be in as good shape instantly post pregnancy due to the whole celebrity culture. You have to remember that most celebs have masses of help around them, to enable them to look that good. Also the pictures you see in the magazines are all air brushed and not real life! x
