Subject : had my section

Hi everyone,
I had my planned section on 30th sept and i just thought i would share with you my experience.
all went really well the canular in my wrist hurt more than the epidural! I bearly felt them moving my insides around and baby was delivered so quickly. I had baby Chester at 5.29pm and at 7.30am the next morning i was up and about!
i am typing this with one hand as Chester is asleep on me! so if anyone has any questions, i may of missed out bits - i will be happy to answer

Congratulations Sammie- glad everything went well.
Few questions for you- did they help you through the night with him and how do you reach baby in and out of the cot if you can't move??
Just wondering if a morning cs would be better so husband could stay until you had feeling back? WhateeeEver!

They helped me through the night they were really good I just had to press my buzzer if he needed anything and they fed and changed him, if I wanted to feed him they helped me do that to. I didnt mind that it was an late afternoon delivery as I had the time to just rest in the night and felt much better for it when they got me up at 7.30!

Hi Marie,
A planned section will def be a much better experience for you by the sounds of it.

could ur birthing partner cut the cord? - Yep they obviously have to cut a bit to get the baby out of you, then when the baby is with the midwife they cut it properly, they asked my hubbie if wanted to cut it but he just could not do it!
was it a relaxed atmosphere?-It was a very relaxed atmosphere, we didnt know before we went in (as our midwifes were s**t and didnt give us any information that the hospital told them to) but we would of been allowed to take a cd along to be played whilst the section was going on. all the staff in the room (about 10 people) spoke to us and introduced themselves to both me and my hubbie, and kept checking that both me and hubbie were ok, I thought it was really great that they included him aswell.
how long was it till u was back on the ward - I was in recovery for about 30 mins.
and wen could u put ur lo into a babygrow n giv first feed? - whilst in recovery when they are doing checks on you and the baby they encorage you to give the first feed, we are bottle feeding so they gave him to me first and then they handed him to hubbie to finish feeding him. with the baby grow we put him in his own back on the ward but you can take one down with you and the midwife can put it on in recovery.

I hope this helps, I know that all hospitals are different but hopefully the staff at yours are just as nice.

Hi Sammie, Congratulations on Chester!

Just wanted to ask a few questions as well if thats ok, sorry for being nosey!

How long/big/wide is your c-section scar and do they use disolvable stitches?
How do you feel moving around, is it difficult to move, walk up the stairs lift chester out of cot or feed him etc

Were ttc in January and i want a elec c-sec after a difficult labour afterbirth with Joshua but im worried about the afterbirth with a c-section you know getting around and recovery etc xxx

No probs I know how it feels to worry before a section so I am happy to answer any questions that will put peoples minds at rest.

How long/big/wide is your c-section scar and do they use disolvable stitches? - The scar is very low down and i would say it is about 5 inches long? yep it is disolvable stiches and it is very very thin, it is already healing over nicely.
How do you feel moving around, is it difficult to move, walk up the stairs lift chester out of cot or feed him etc - the first day moving around it was very difficult to move around to much, but this is not a problem because you are in hosp and have the nurses helping with you and the baby. I got home on the 3rd day and by then I felt alot more comfortable, I was advised to only walk up and down the stairs once a day and although it wasnt uncomfortable walking up/down them I am sticking to that advice because I dont want to damage the internal stiches. we have got Chester in a moses basket and I have not had any trouble lifting him in and out or had any trouble feeding him. I did have a bit of trouble bending to change him for the first couple of days but my hubbie helped with that. I would say the hardest thing once getting home is getting in and out of bed because you have to use your muscles to do it and they are recovering to, it can be a bit painful. I am 7 days after the op now and although I am still taking pain killers I am almost back to normal (although I still do not want to over do it) .
I hope this helps
